Warning. Cheeky Wilko's.

Some people will probably accuse me of not looking properly, but here goes........

I went to Wilko's today and saw a lovely vase with a nice bunch of flowers in it. It was PERFECT for our newly decorated bedroom. Underneath the vase and flowers (on the shelf) it said £5, which I thought was good. So I took it to the checkout (with another 6 or 7 items I had bought.) The bill came to around £20. I had worked it out to a couple of pound less in my head, but thought I was just being a muppet.

So I checked on the receipt when I left the shop, and it seems that the vase and flowers that were priced up at £5, were NOT £5; they were £7.50.

Basically, the VASE was £5, and the bunch of flowers was £2.50!

The flowers were a separate article!

Even though the flowers were shoved in the vase, and the price said £5, there was a separate tag in the flowers.

Sly.

It was presented on the shelf as £5 for the vase and flowers.

I don't know if it just said 'vase' on the shelf (in tiny writing underneath the HUGE £5 figure!) But it can't have been very clear or obvious, or I would have noticed it!

So just be careful when you see a vase with a bunch of flowers in it, in Wilko's (or any similar stores.) Make sure the flowers aren't priced up separately to the vase!

Depends what the label says to be honest. It might have said "Vase: 5 pounds" in which case it is just an error on your part unfortunately. Don't forget but customers (not you) can be strange !!!!!!s, and one may have put the flowers into the vase for some strange reason (the shop may also put an item into another item, much like furniture being displayed as a set but sold separately). I can see no harm in going back, though, and querying the price you were charged. Maybe check out the label first, and if it says "vase: 5 pounds" then give up but if it implies in any way that it included flowers then it is worth a quick query.

    Hmmm yesss... :)

But as I said, all I saw was £5. And it was directly under the vase with the flowers in. TBH there were quite a few in different colours all over the place, so I doubt another customer put them in the vase. Seems Wilko did it.

For the record, I have no massive beef with Wilko, and I go in there a lot, and I guess it is partly my fault for not looking properly (I noticed the flowers had a £2.50 tag on after!) However, i just wanted to warn people to be careful, because it is very easy to be fooled into thinking that you get the vase and the flowers for £5.

I will go back in tomorrow and double check everything on the labels, and think about bringing this to their attention if need be.

    Thank you. :)

Sounds like you took their display item, Someone will be wondering where it went.
Or someone will be getting a ticking off for not putting the vase and flower display out. :)

    You say " sly" .
I really can't imagine wilco are using the " put some flowers in a vase " to boost profits. I'm sorry this is just silly.

I'm trying not to be rude but get a grip.

I don't think it's sly either, nor cheeky.

TBH, in a shop such as Wilko I personally would never have expected to buy both a vase and flowers for a single price because I know they sell them separate.

This sounds most likely, I bet there was a dozen or so vases nearby without flowers in.

TBH every furniture company, every clothes shop, any many others will do this. Whilst it could have been clearer, I don't think that on this occasion it was untoward,
