HELP - can`t connect to internet

Can someone please help me here before I need to call in an expensive `expert` to sort me out
When I try to connect to internet on pc I get the message `connecting` coming up then . . . . . . nothing .
I`ve spoken to wanadoo and my livebox is connected properly and working fine with the laptop I`m having to use now . The guy on the `phone reckons there`s a problem with internet browser on my pc . . . ? How can I check it and is it possible to reset it so it will work ?
Any help here would be apprecited as everytime I need to call in the `expert` it seems to cost me £100 + ! Almost as chep to buy a new one!

maybe a silly question but if I cant connect pc to internet then I can`t download this other browser . . . . . . ?

If as you say your laptop is connecting well to the net you can d/l the program there and then copy it to your PC using a USB memory or removable drive.

OK , sorry for being dim . Downloaded onto cd and installed onto pc but. . . . . pc now states `firefox can`t fnd the server at en-gb.start2.mozilla.com`

Still won`t connect , any ideas?

if comp is protected by firewall or proxy make sure firefox is permitted to acccess web . . . . again ? ? ??

If you are using a Firewall like Zone Alarm etc, check the settings.

on the bottom right there should be a little computer icon (network connection) has this got a red X through it? if not double click it and click the tab which should bring up network info. Do you have and IP address there?

plugged in ethernet cable and double clicked on the small pc ico with red square and it stated `connected` but when I dbl click on both mozilla and/or internet explorer I get message ` website found waiting for reply` and it sticks there for as long as I leave it it never actually bringing up the webpage
Seems the liebox is working OK and I can indeed connect to internet but for some reason no webpages will actually open . . . ,?

Am I going to need professional(expensive) help ?
