Default Notice

Options
Hi all

I have had a default on my credit file since 2012. It was my Tesco CC and they defaulted me on £24. I came to an agreement with them to settle my CC and this was done within 6 months. However, I have requested that they remove this from my file as Im trying to get a mortgage but with no luck and they have point blank refused. I do think I can get this removed but don't know how to go about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure about this. You defaulted and the information is correct. Given that they have refused i'm not sure what you can do about it.

    Others may have advice.

What i do think is ridiculous is that a default for £24 from 3 years ago can have such a disproportionate impact on ones ability to get a mortgage.

It may be that you can put a comment on your file explaining why you defaulted for such a small sum. (I'm guessing there is a story)

This at least will prevent you from being auto declined, as i understand that any corrections get referred to a real person to look at it.

Perhaps a post on the mortgage board may elicit advice as to how much this will affect your ability to obtain a mortgage.

  • Thanks you for your reply. I too think this is ridiculous but I'll post in the mortgage forum and hopefully get some sort of feedback. I'll also put a note on my file and hopefully this may remedy the situation.

a notice of correction isn't any better, for the amount its likely to be ignored
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Try a mortgage broker if you are having issues.

    Mortgage board will advise.
