Can I drive this car?

Simple, send of the V5, he uses the green slip code to tax then takes out his own insurance policy.
If you have DOC cover on your policy then you can drive it fine.0 -
I can't send the V5 until he signs the darn thing though as we both have to sign.. I have insurance on my own new car or my husband could also drive it on his own insurance.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Your husband's "other car" cover will also probably exclude cars owned by spouse/partner.
Aside from that, you HAVE checked that you do actually each have DOC cover, yep? It's been disappearing gradually over the years.
TBH, whether it's his real signature is the last thing I'd be worrying about here. Just leave that blank and post the V5C.0 -
Ye just post it off and get the money. Registered keeper and owner aren't necessarily the same!0

One moment...
Your BiL is going to insure it in his name. No problem.
He's going to tax it in his name, using the V5C/2 doc ref. No problem.
YOUR insurance... Is that for THIS car? Or is it the "driving other cars" clause of a policy on another car? If it's DOC, then PROBLEM. It's still your car on the V5C, so you'll almost certainly not be covered under the DOC.
Why, the Registration Document shows the Registered Keeper not the owner. So, as long as the BIL is the new owner when the car is being delivered, then DOC would be fine. There is often this confusion that the "log Book" shows ownership, but all it shows is the Keeper of the registered vehicle who is also the person legally responsible for that vehicle and who drives it. That is not in the eyes of the law the same as the owner but often will be.0 -
You will probably find your insurance wont cover it because the car is still in your name. The DOC part usually excludes that.
Your partner needs to check their insurance to see if the vehicle he is driving needs to be insured in its own right.
My policy had that clause added a few years ago.
Why will you have to do the journey twice? Either he comes to collect it or if your going to get him then you go and get him and bring him back to you.
He sorts the paperwork out and tax and insures the car then he drives home.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It probably won't. That exclusion is like the Loch Ness Monster - lots of people claim that it exists, but it's hard to find an actual example of it. Even Admiral don't have it - and they can normally be counted on to have every exclusion known to man.Your husband's "other car" cover will also probably exclude cars owned by spouse/partner.0 -
Well its finally sorted thanks everyone for the advice its a long convoluted explanation that I won't bore you with but I'm grateful you stopped making a big mistake.
He is now coming to collect the car himself which he has taxed and insured.. so my problem is sol-ved thank you all...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
