What to do in Dublin?

I have 5 days in Dublin at the end of July / start of August. One of those days will involve a half marathon; so I don't really want to do anything that involves too much walking, etc.

I am mostly interested in things such as science, etc. I know they have a zoo there. What's that like?

Do the bus tour, hopping on and off. The commentary is usually good, with Irish humour.

I'd go to Kilmainham Gaol, too. Make a change from the Guinness .

We did this and a few other bits. I'd sign up to the dublin Groupon and sign up to the offers as there's loads and although it doesn't link to the uk one it's worth signing up to. We had steak on a hot stone which was lush. I'd also say the place beginning with k above, was well worth a visit for the money

The other one we did was Irish dancing. It was only 12 euro but for 2 hours it was well worth doing. It is on trip advisor and there were a few hen parties, but it's a good laugh. Plus the Irish dancing goes off in the pub in the evening and me and my friend sat and watched it at the bar too

The zoo is great, one of the best, located in the Phoenix Park. Highly recommended, also use the DART suburban trains to get to the coast, Howth and Malahide to the north of Dublin and Dalkey to the south, great little towns by the sea with good food to be had.

Science Gallery by Trinity College? It's free

Little Museum of Dublin is great, the Natural History Museum has lots of old school animal and rock exhibitions and is also free

I thought that Kilmainham Gaol was one of the most atmospheric places I've ever been to.
    Incredibly sad.

I also loved all the statues:
    Hags with the Bags
    James Joyce
    Molly Malone
    Oscar Wilde
    Phil Lynott
Famine Figures - these were really haunting

I also liked the Children of Lir statue/fountain.
  • Another vote for the Kilmainham Gaol. It's excellent and very cheap too.

I also enjoyed the Guinness Storehouse. It has great views from the bar at the top. Not sure if your interest in science extends to the science of making beer ;) but it's quite interesting.

If you can find a whole day free, you could do a tour with https://www.railtoursireland.com

There's plenty to choose from, you could visit Belfast, Cork, do the Ring of Kerry, or visit the Aran Islands which involves a short plane ride from Connemara Airport, near Galway.
