Thank you so much for your replies, it's lovely reading through them. You've given me lots to think about
We've had some of the harder conversations about it, such as if doesn't happen for us or the possibility of the baby being born with a disability. re DIY, that's what we're aiming to do ATM, particularly any jobs that need heavy lifting! Not aiming to have the perfect show home but just make it comfortable and liveable. But then at the same time we keep hearing 'there's never a good time' from our friends with kids, which can be a bit frustrating at times. I know they mean well though

Go on Holiday - lots of them if you can - where there are only couples. Once you have kids it will never be the same.

If you are in a stable and loving relationship then go for it.
The most memorable moments for me and my husband were when we had our two lovely daughters and the joy and love we have shared with them over the years since they were born, 27 and 29 years ago. Our youngest is now 12 weeks pregnant with her first baby and her husband and her are busy making their home as child friendly as possible. They like you have recently bought a house so are doing diy now while they are both working.
Practicalities are that you should take this opportunity to get your finances in order - children are expensive. Make sure you have a budget worked out for when you are on maternity leave and build up a savings buffer for unexpected expenses. Sort out any debt you have and preferably pay it off, except for mortgage. Also, unless you are loaded don't be tempted into paying hundreds of pounds for the latest buggies, cots etc which will only be used for a few months to a year or so if that. Do some research and go for second hand if possible or at least a good bargain. The baby won't care so long as it is safe and comfortable. Also pay attention to your health so you can have as healthy a pregnancy as possible.
