Buying a motability car

Hi,
i'm nearly at the end of my 3 year lease and my plan is to get another car on the 3 year lease however a mate of mine has mentioned about buying my current motability car.
Anyone done this? if so how would it work?
Is it a case of me telling motability that I want to buy it then I actually purchase it then sell it. then I reapply for the motability scheme?

Tell Motability that you want to buy it. Agree a price with the garage, get your friend to give you the money - pay for it and drive away.
Then apply for a new Motability car for yourself. Make sure that you are going to get the enhanced rate of PIP for some time to come. You don't want to find that you lose the award and kick yourself for selling on your old Motability car.
Motability used to be a fantastic scheme, but with all of the uncertainty that PIP is bringing - people are buying their own cars instead. Last I heard that Motability have lost about 30% of their customers this way.0 -
You phone them up two months before your lease ends, asking them for a quote based on the milage of the car. They send you the quote. It's then up to you to decide if its worth buying. You have to pay upfront for the car. Either a cheque or bank transfer.0

- 3 million DLA have yet to switch to PIP
- 3,000 out of 8,000 lost their vehicle due to PIP reassessment
- 3,000 vehicles returned to Motability only three were wheel chair adapted
- so 100 disabled people every week lose their Motbility to PIP transitionDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thanks Richie, I wasn't that far out.
just shows what has been going on with DLA. OK it is a different way of assessing a disability. But 38% lost their cars! That's a saving of over £8.1 million just on those that lost their cars. And they are the ones that the government said that 80% of current DLA awardees would move over to PIP. Goodness knows what the figure is if you include the 'new' claimants that would have been awarded DLA.0 -

- end of Oct 2014, 74,000 new claimants had been awarded PIP ERM
- plus 11,700 previously in receipt of DLAHRM were awarded the PIP ERMDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Personally I don't care what car they drive if they bought it themselves and gave up claiming a benefit that they genuinely aren't entitled to.0
