Junk phone calls - Argh!!!

Options
I've had my phone number for years, it's seen me through two contracts at least so it's at least four years old. Recently (in the past 6/7 months or so) I've been bombarded with phone calls at all hours of the day - PPI, calls about "your work in industry" (erm, unless you mean retail and care then nope!), ambulance chasing firms, gambling companies, The Telegraph and the latest fad - paid for bank accounts! Plus many more (possibly debt chasers).

Apparently some guy called Geoff has been giving out my number to all and sundry, I don't know if he used to have my number or if his number is one away from mine and he's been deliberately mis-typing all this time (funnily enough I don't get calls from any individuals looking for him - strange that). I've downloaded call blocker but it still does my head in looking to see I've got missed calls and it turns out to be the same company repeatedly calling.

Not after any advice (the only option it seems is to change my number and I don't want to do that) it's just doing my head in!

  • Not sure what to suggest. Who on earth could Geoff be?!

If it's too bad, then I suggest you change your number. I know you said you didn't want to, but I see no alternative.

Don't think the TPS can help with mobiles, and even if they could, they are a bit useless anyway!

    TPS say...
The TPS can accept the registration of mobile telephone numbers, however it is important to note that this will prevent the receipt of marketing voice calls but not SMS (text) messages.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

    Didn't know that. Thanks Pete.

Still, from my experience, TPS are a bit useless.

Maybe others find them good, but I seemed to still get many unwanted calls even after registering. In fact, I swear the one time I registered, the calls increased!

I get calls on my mobile occasionally about claiming for phantom car accidents (I don't drive anyway).

The latest one is claiming for hearing loss. I have an app on my phone that gives you a heads up on who it could be. I immediately add them to my reject list.

I have had calls from Dennis publishing recently, wanting me to take out mag subscriptions (I have previously had their mags).

Depending upon your mobile, you can block numbers which have called.
Alternatively you can create a "Junk" contact and add numbers to that.
It won't make the problem go away, but it might help a bit...

I have a call blocker on my android phone called Mr. Number. But any numbers which withhold there number I simple do not answer. I rarely use my mobile and anyone I know is in the phones address book so it instantly shows up.
