This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning :hello:

Gers I hope your mum has a speedy recovery xx

The weekend was all about animals :D Saturday was awful, Scampi spent the afternoon glaring out of the window, barking at anything that moved. He ignored all calls etc. from me. There seemed to be an endless stream of teenage girls going past the house, when any of them spotted him at the window, they squealed “Ooooooh, awwwww, look at him, he's soooo cute!” which just made him worse. It was saturday afternoon, why weren't they hanging about in town annoying everyone else, like normal teenagers? :D

Partridge Pete decided to come into the kitchen, then couldn't find his way back out. I stayed well back and talked to him, he seemed to calm down a bit then flapped around by the window so I opened it as wide as I could (not easy when you're 5' 2” and the window is above a worktop, lol), expecting him to fly off. But he flew to the floor, walked up the drive and turned right up the road :rotfl:

We have a broody hen – little bantam Coco – she is very gentle normally but a force to be reckoned with when her mind is set on something :D I know better than to interfere with broody girls (unless they refuse to come out for food), I've had the painful pecks :D I know people say you should break it ASAP but it's natural and they usually come out of it by themselves. The others are having none of it and keep trying to force her out. There are many chicken arguments going on at the moment.

Next door neighbour has an eight week old pup, border terrier/shih tzu cross. Very cute. Scampi heard it in the garden and is completely confused, he runs to the fence but then seems to think it's the chickens making a noise :D

The weather is looking better today, long walks and garden games are in order I think :D I'll try to get a bit of housework done between adventures. It's a waste of time really, with all the other trus home I won't get much done, they just get in my way, lol. It would be nice to eat just a bit of my Easter chocolate without having to sneak a bite when Scampi's not looking – I've managed a malteser bunny so far – so might shut myself, the laptop and the choc in the bedroom later :D

Good Morning all, looks like some of you are either having a lie-in (Hestering;)) or are up and out already .

Weather doesn't look too bad today ,but at the moment I am thinking of knitting and a bit of sewing this morning, too many folk on the roads on Bank Holiday Mondays.

DD gave me a lovely chocolate Easter Egg yesterday which is in the fridge so I may just have to have a wee nibble while I'm knitting :):):) be rude not too wouldn't it :)

I was going to start my spring cleaning but just don't feel that energised today. That's the worst of long week-end you get out of a routine and often just don't feel like doing much;)

Hope you all have a good day what ever you are doing
    Cheers chums

    Morning all
We are dog sitting this week, DD has gone to Center Parcs with her 5 kids & some of their friends, she's taken one dog with her but left one with me, he's a lovely dog but not good with other dogs & she didn't want to risk it so he's staying with us. He's no trouble, apart from wanting to sit on my knee every so often & he weighs around 9 stone.
Hubby will be spending time in the garden today & I'll be playing ball & giving cuddles.
I may try driving round the block today if I think I'm safe as we really need to go & see MIL soon.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning all. Feeling pretty rough this morning - sadly it's self inflicted!! Family Christening yesterday and, as always with Mr TA's family, the booze was flowing at the party afterwards! Finally got Mr TA to call it a day at 9.30 and the party had kicked off at 1.15!!! It had been a lovely day but marred by one thing - DS and GF had a bust up and he came alone. I say bust up but she does all the shouting and banging around and he keeps quiet, which upsets her all the more. She is lovely when she's the right side out but has suffered depression for years. Not her fault I know but she is very hard to live with and we all think she needs some form of counselling/anger management instead of the doctor just doling out pills. She can erupt over something and nothing and it just escalates beyond belief.

Oh well enough moaning. Yesterday was a glorious day and once this morning fog has lifted we are forecast the same today with temps of 17 deg! Wow!

Don't feel much in the way of cooking today. I made a curry Sat night and there's still some of that in the fridge so that's one meal spoken for! I don't feel much in the way of doing anything today and feel a lazy day ahead! No more family do's on the horizon thank goodness, I'm getting too old to cope with them!!

Mr TA just gone to pick DS up to take him back to yesterday's venue for his car. Unfortunately he has to work today so needs it. I just hope he feels better than I do and no trouble with GF when he got home last night. I told him if she needs someone to talk to I am here as long as she doesn't expect me to take sides.

Have a good day all and I hope your mum is feeling better today GERS.
    Take care xx

  • Morning, bright and sunny here this morning so the laundry is im the machine, should get it dry outside today, have shoved in some white stuff as its on a hitish wash.

Lamb was delicious yesterday, I do like the shoulder, much nicer than the leg, seems to me to have much more flavour. DD2 brought us both an easter bunny, one went last night, mine of course. shared with OH.

Right time to be up and at 'em. Monday clean to do and I want to scrub the bathroom tiles, the black ones are showing signs od water marking.

OH has his gardening stuff on, so I guess he is going out to tackle something out there, not sure what. We are gradually attacking the shed and moving things on. I do need a trip into the attic to see whats up there we can shed, would like it empty of everything except the large rug I know is in there. The daffs are all out, tulips showing colour and the herbaceous bed signs of new growth.

    Morning all,

Must be the time for dogsitting....DS3 and family have gone to Florida for 10 days and I have their girls....2 little chihuahua /jack russell cross who are spoilt rotten.....they have had me up since before 6 and are currently asleep on their blankets....if I move so will they so being quiet for a bit and will then let them out for a run.....poor Mossy is not sure what to make of them!

Will do a bit of gardening today as need to get rest of seeds in and another 'instalment' of lettuce in....OH would sow a whole packet of lettuce and then forget any more until we have run out.

Looks set to be a lovely day, so will be nice outside.....OH still in bed! Which is unusual for him, but I expect he will be up shortly as he cant manage later than 10without his paper.

Really need to get my glasses changed as finding it very difficult to read small print, or indeed any kind of print in poor light. Havent noticed anything when driving but would be happier with new lenses....not looking forward to the €400+ bill.

Enjoy the rest of Easter holiday, whatever you are doing.

    Morning all,

Sun is shining and washing is on the line.

Had a lovely time at DD's Hen weekend. Her friend who hosted us did a fabulous job. It was so nice to have someone else be in charge :)
Friday evening we had manicures and pedicures with the Gel stuff. Never had a manicure before (too ashamed of my hands) but they look so good I think I'll keep it up (finances allowing). We then had a lovely Metze (?) in a Lebanese restaurant. Sat evening we had dinner at the Jamies restaurant in central London which was nice but oh so noisy. Then off for a dance before seeing a Burlesque show at the Hippodrome. Sunday we had afternoon tea before coming home.

Only about 5 weeks to the Wedding!

DH and DS2 are off to football later so might have a bit of a nap!

    Happy Monday :)

    Good Morning everyone,

I do hope everyone is well.

It is a glorious morning so far so all the laundry will be hanging on the line today.

I have my usual long list of chrores today and dog exercising duties to do.

I think i have turned the corner with my chest infection at long last as i am feeling better today and DH said that he never heard me coughing overnight.

If its nice and warm outside i might forget some of my chores list and sit in the garden and do some knitting. Have to take advantage of the sun when it's out.

Hope everyone has a great day

    Regards

    Morning all,

Beautiful sunny day here I have stripped DD's bed and got that in the wash will hang it on the line and remake the bed later with the line dried stuff smells so much nicer that way.

Mum came for dinner yesterday the lamb was delish and loads left for another roast tomorrow when we are back at work. Her house is very nearly ready we are just waiting for the new drive way to be put in now so that she can pull up right to the house with her shopping, its really beautiful like a show home I think she will be very happy there.

Think I am going to go over to DD's later and take her shopping in the car, she can get a good stock in then to last her a few weeks, OH going to stay at home and do out online shopping and mow the lawn if it dries up enough.

Not sure about dinner will go and have a rummage in the freezer.

Gers I hope your mum continues to improve xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning All

I'm still in bed! Had to cut short my weekend away as I had D&V so had to drive home yesterday with a sick bowl on the passenger seat! My friends were fine with me being there but they were having a house full of visitors and I didn't think I could cope. Actually slept really well, just got up about 7 to make a warm drink and then went back to sleep. At least I have stopped having 'creepy skin' and feel warm again.

HH - hope your eye continues to improve.
tru - You should write a book!

Not doing anything today, may sit in the garden as the sun is beginning to shine. Have a good Easter Monday. Take care. XX
