BA Flight Delay, compensation for a lost day?
bambinaUK
I booked a four night trip to New York through BA and due to a delayed flight between Manchester and Heathrow, we missed our connecting flight to JFK. From what the pilot said during the delayed flight, BA had known for hours that this plane was playing catch-up, so im a bit annoyed that this was not on their website earlier in the morning.
We were put up in a hotel room overnight and flew into Newark the next day as the flight was 3hrs earlier than the next JFK one. When we arrived our transfer into the city had not been rearranged (as promised by the BA info desk)
Anyway with the delay we didn't book into our hotel until after 4pm. I had already purchased a 3 day City and bus pass, so we also lost a full day of that too.
Coming home our flight from JFK to Heathrow was again delayed, but this time we were switched to an earlier flight, so we wouldn't miss our connection.
So now I want to claim some compensation for the following:
1 x NY hotel room cost
2 x 1 Day NY City Pass
2 x Seat reservation costs from Heathrow to JFK
2 x Seat reservation costs from JFK to Heathrow.
Am I being unreasonable?

If you don't ask, you don't get.
A couple of questions:
1) Was your booking from Manchester on a through ticket to New York, or did you make separate bookings for each leg?
2) What was the reason for the delay?
Depending on your answers you may be entitled to statutory compensation of upto €600 per passenger.
Have a read of this and perhaps ask your question in that specific BA thread.0 -
Airlines will not cover consequential losses such as hotel and city pass. If you qualify for EU compensation then the €600 would help to offset your losses or you can try your travel insurance. If the reason for the delay was outside the airlines control then you would go to your travel insurance.
There is a specific board for this.

The easiest good will gesture to get from BA is Avios, so if there's no chance of cash ask for thousands of Avios.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Interesting, I have not heard of EU compensation before.

I booked the whole thing at the same time, just picked the connecting flight recommended by BA, which said leave a minimum of an hour between connecting flights.
2) What was the reason for the delay?
Apparently the plane was delayed at Amsterdam first thing in the morning, no other info than that.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the proper thread. Will go and have a look.0
