£3 to the Land Registry here assuming the property is registered.

Otherwise, you should have paper deeds.

No paper work what so ever was given to me or posted to me when the mortgage was finished.

Which is because (as they explained to you) it's all electronic these days. If you, or anybody else, wants evidence of who owns your house they can ask the Land Registry.

A certificate from HMLR is defacto proof of ownership. In fact for registered properties (the vast majority of residential these days) it is the only proof.

You or anyone else who wants one can have one for £3.

As others have posted the registered details are held electronically so you can check online if you wish to confirm such details.

Any future buyer/lender would obtain their own copy or view the details online as well to confirm your ownership as and when they need to - if you obtained your own copy now that would not be acceptable as proof in say 5 years time so it is very much a case of check when you need to.

There is a slight possibility that the property is unregistered if you live in the more rural parts of England or Wales but not if you bought or mortgaged after 1990.You can check the trigger date for compulsory first registration in your area in our online Practice Guide - section 8
