Stuff missing from hotel room... what would you do?

Hi, sorry if posting in wrong place. Am after people's opinions - don't know whether to follow this up or not....
Just back from Disneyland Paris, we stayed in one of the Disney hotels. We went for a swim in the hotel pool and lost track of time. When we got back to our room we saw we had 5 minutes to get to our restaurant (pre-booked time) so threw clothes on and ran out, leaving the room a mess. We didn't know room service would be in.
Room service came in and took all the hotel towels from the bedroom floor (so much for "we only take towels from the bath") along with all our bathers, which were with them. They also didn't leave any clean towels - leaving us towel-less! We had left the kids' PSP (games console) on the bed, with 2 sets of headphones plugged in. When we got back, the 2 sets of headphones had been placed on the dresser but no PSP. Our kindle was left untouched, so we think that housekeeping may have mixed up the PSP with the sheets and it all went to wash (rather than deliberate theft). Strangely he/she had removed the headphones first though :S
We filled in a form at the hotel, but I'm not sure whether I should follow it up, or just put it down to our fault for leaving stuff lying around. Would appreciate opinions.

Most definitely follow it up - did you have holiday insurance? Contact them for advice, also the tour operator.0

Yes to travel insurance, but reading the small print I didn't pay extra for "gadget cover" (I don't remember any mention of it) and not sure whether we will be able to find the receipt - have had it for a while. Will have a look...0

Some bank accounts and credit cards give you travel insurance as part of the terms... might be worth checking that as wellWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

With or without insurance coming into play, you need to report this to the hotel manager anyway, as they need to know what sort of staff they are employing.0

We stayed in a Disney Paris onsite hotel a few years back. The service was awful. The room may just have well been used as a trash store. We complained at the hotel and on return. We ended up with a free stay and passes to the park. Had to pay to get there again, but a good deal IMO.
All I would have said is why did you not put the do not disturb hanger on the door on the way out to eat? Takes about 5 seconds.alao leave the TV on as if someone is still in the room. I would not rush off to eat with all that expensive electrical left out and maid service still to come. And being left out as indicted it is doubtful if any insurance would cover the loss if you are truthful. You owe a duty of care to not leave items strewn around the room. They should be stored reasonably securely.
Good luck with whatever you can get.0 -
I think most insurers would require the gadgets to be kept in a safe not just on the bed to pay out.
Keep on at the hotel - you probably will have more luck that way.0
