Ok Bit more info, the seller is the father, but it is being delt with by the son, th efarther is in a home in scotland where i belive you do not have to pay fees.
    .

You do have to pay fees in Scotland if the person going into care has assets of 16k or above.

The fact the son is living in the house though would probably mean it is exempt from that anyway. (assuming he hasn't just moved in to avoid "losing" the property.

The house is a detached 3 bed bungalow and therefore is a bit different. Most of the other houses in the area are 3 bed semi bungalows and sell for between 190 to 215, next door has just sold for 190, and they are all in good decoritive order. Anyway the estate agent agrees that what I made was a good offer.

I will deffinatley not be delaying the sale of my house, it looks like renting for me, which fills me with dread. I never rented before and looking at prices it's very expensive and if house prices go up (static in my area at the mo) when you are renting your deposit gets smaller.

As I said above, I guess I'll just have to right it off, I just wondered if anyone could suggest anything I could try, I did consider asking for a meeting with the son and the esatae agent and trying to thrash somthing out.

Could you investigate areas other than the one you are presently looking in where more houses might come up for sale? It does sound like the house u are interested in is rather over valued. Even the price you offered may be an over value offer.

There isn't anything you can do other than offer more. That is, if you want it. Other than that, just wait and see. If he asked for 300k then I would think it is reasonable he won't take 260k.

not so, unless he is over 60, or owns a share of the property.

If this property is the one you want then make a higher offer. As rent paid is going to be dead money. Ultimately a property is what it's worth to you. Particularly if you end up living there 30 or 40 years.
