I turned off after he made remarks about how the Govn't had improved the lot of those on benefits since his first programme  I just found that a) a self righteous political plug and b) incredibly patronising!!!!
    (b) is certainly right, but how can (a) be, when Portillo's a Tory and I'm sure both those programmes were made since Labour came to power?

Even if the setting for the programme was a Tory consituency, the benefits system is administered by central government (Labour) so it's doubtful that Portillo would have anything to gain by claiming that the government had improved things.

Much as I hate to believe that Portillo would say anything straightforward without any ulterior motive, I don't see what he or the Tories could gain from this statement.

Or am I missing something (I didn't see the programme).

LOL Nope you are absolutely right ... it is me getting Portillo mixed up with that other one (whose name I still can't remember ... grrr! ... I hate it when that happens). One day you too may have a brain as mushy as mine :rotfl:

I hereby retract statement a) but stand by statement b) :D

that's a good idea tycoon. Remember that the value of something isn't always int eh hard cash part. The incentive of saving is worth more than the interest on the money in this situation. And what a great habit to encourage in your family.

Which all raises a thought here...

Is there a definitive thread anywhere on a

crash course for short term saving.

    ???

I've seen, and contributed to, the odd post where people need to find a bit of cash in a hurry - but with less time now to browse than I used to have I haven't yet spotted where it is.

There must be one somewhere? Surely?

Haven't seen one! I think it's a great idea as there have been many times in my life when I've had to find a reasonably small amount (say around £200) in a bit of a hurry.

Trouble is would it fit in on Old Style or would we have to put it elsewhere.

My favourite remedy for this is a boot sale, raises money and clears the house of junk all at the same time.

There's a Don't spend anything for a week one HERE and there is another one one which will help that I thought of while looking for that one, but I've forgotten it again, Don't you just hate early onset Alzheimers :o I'm far to young to be suffering yet.
