    Hello :j

Just wanted to pop by and say hello and that I have subscribed. Reading what others achieve is so inspiring and all those little savings and surveys clearly do add up. What a great idea to keep a record of it all as well. You must be super duper organised :)

I will keep reading with interest.

Hi everyone :) A big thanks to everyone that has popped in and left a comment.

I'm afraid I'm not that organised normally Daisychain1 but I do find recording my bargains and savings is helping me to save some money.

Ilona - I too am beginning to be able to track the times when things get reduced. Tend to do all my shopping now late in the day. £10-£15 a week for food is fantastic.

Hummingbird - I too love the reduced bread. Haven't bought any at full price for weeks now and we've had some fab artisan loaves that we wouldn't have normally bought. I've picked up many at 9p each which is cheaper than making my own. Sounds like you got a lot for your money yesterday.

I'm off work again today as we are taking our son back to University. Going to call in at the supermarket to do his shopping on the way so I will hopefully pick up some more bargains today :)

I do this, but you need to be carful you don't buy stuff just for the sake of it and it sort of defeats the purpose.

It is far to tempting to buy stuff because its cheap some of the time, especially when I live over the road from a large Morrison's.

My freezer is randomly full of random things. Some nice and sometimes not as nice.

I have also found out the CheckoutSmart, Shopitize and chicksnaps apps have some good savings to be made, but again watch you do not buy stuff just for the sake of it.

    Hi B0B
I know exactly what you mean. In the past I have definitely been tempted by things that I didn't really need or want. I now do try to only buy things that I would normally buy or that I can substitute for something else.
I also use a couple of the apps that you mentioned but I've never heard of the last one so I'm now off to check that one out too! :)

Did pick up some more bargains today. Will list them later when I've got a bit more time

Well I did yet another shop today and got some pretty good bargains. Main aim of shop was to restock my sons supplies on our way back to Uni but since I always pay for it then I can count it in my savings :)

There were lots of yellow stickers in store but I was good and only bought the things that we or our son needed.

Amongst the reduced items that we bought there was asparagus (which I bought as a treat for myself as hubby and son not keen), a finest mushroom risotto (will make 2 meals for son), lots of fruit, aubergines, cooked meats, cheese, potatoes and bakery items.
Had we paid full price for the items it would have cost £31.62. We paid £18.03 which was a huge saving of £13.59.

    April savings to date :-

    Yellow sticker items :-
    Full price cost = £93.05

£5 supermarket voucher from match and more

  • The Sainsburys I worked at was quite quiet at night so it was easy to come back with armfulls.

Mrs MikeTaff was not impressed when I used to turn up back at home with five bulging bags of reduced food for the freezer. (NB.Most of the stuff said "not suitable for home freezing" still went in the freezer and tasted fine)

I live near a big Tesco, and I never bother looking for bargains there. Its just so happens they put out their final reductions at a time that I would be passing on the way home from work. I have popped in occasionally to get top up shops and have witnessed the carnage in the chillers. The only way I could describe it would be "feeding time of the chimps at the zoo" and that would be an insult to the chimps.
This Tesco takes away all the reduced items out the back to make the final reduction. I witnessed the worker pulling the roll cage back to the reduction area, to be greeted by a sea of eager faces. He actually gave them a lecture saying "you know the rules, NO-ONE is to take any items until I have put them on the shelves. Honestly, the people were like Usain Bolt on the start line waiting for the start gun. When He had finished and said "OK - help yourselves" , I swear that some of them would have been off on the B of the BANG if it was a start gun. There were arms flailing everywhere, husbands standing behind their spouses collecting goods being thrown over their shoulders without turning round. It was horrific.

So I have never even attempted to get bargains there. I have my dignity!

My Local M&S do good reductions and they usually go out at around 7:30 to 8pm (an out of town superstore though which is open until 10pm)

Hi. You're descriptions of your experiences really made me smile. I'm sure my husband can sympathise with your wife as our freezer is stuffed full. I too have stopped worrying about 'use by' and 'not suitable for freezing'. Common sense tells me if something if 'off'. I too have witnessed the 'scrum' that you describe but I too just stand back when this happens. I want a bargain but it's not worth a fight :)

Well it's a new month and the savings continue. We've now started on a diet as well as trying to save money so that has limited the choice of yellow sticker items that I'm going to buy. Typically today when we went shopping there were dozens of bags of pies and cakes reduced which we somehow managed to resist. We did get a fantastic bargain though in the fish section with 3 large skate wings for 74p. Had we paid full price for these it would have cost a massive £8.59!! Have to admit I've never cooked or even tried skate wing before so it could be interesting :)

    May savings to date :-

    Yellow sticker items :-
    Full price cost = £10.38
    YS cost = £1.23
    Savings = £9.15 or 88%

    Cash or vouchers received :-
£18 supermarket vouchers from Mr M
£5 supermarket voucher from match and more
