Use DBAN. Burn it to a CD and boot from it. It works greatI just wanted to clear it before removing, I've still got a hard drive from my old desk top gathering dust, and I thought that I cleared that one by formatting it, but can't remember what OS it had..
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
if the capacity is a reasonable size, re-use both in a caddy, they're cheap.
As has already been explained, you can't wipe it properly from the XP machine - so you're wasting your time going down the windows disc or third party giveaways route.
It's keep or dban boot disc or caddy and format then keep or reuse, or hammer, or take the risk that someone else picks up your old machine and has a look at what data they can findDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

Take the hard drive out, and keep it.
Dispose of, or sell the remainder on eBay. Someone somewhere WILL buy it, even with no hard drive.0
