Picasa or My Pictures or Google +

Am I right in thinking that all photo's saved, go to My Pictures (on my laptop) automatically?.

That being so, because I have Picasa also, they tend to duplicate themselves and go there too.

Clearly this means with over 1000 photo's duplicated, a lot of unnecessary space on the hard drive is used.

I installed Picasa years ago, due to the ease of changing photo's, but the amount I change is minimal and suppose I could live without it.

Two things come to mind.(apart from either reducing the amount I have or transferring to external hard drive), the first is to delete Picasa totally and hope all photo's are in My Pictures (will they be?), or to use Google+, The problem there is, I read that Google + is for sharing, and that's not an option.

I rather feel that I should simply remove Picasa and use My Pictures to view and use their limited options to make changes.

So, have I answered my own question? have I missed something?

The reason this has been submitted is because a box popped up in Picasa, alerting me to the fact I had almost reached my limitation.

PS, I have just done a sort of stock take noting the folders in each, and thereabouts it is right. I then deleted the first folder in Picasa and it went from My Pictures as well, which is NOT what I wanted. So had to rescue it from the bin. I am now wondering how I can delete folders from Picasa one by one, whilst retaining them in My Pictures.

I believe Picasa is just a filing system. It doesn't actually contain any photos, it just knows where they are.

I wondered the same thing as you did islandman.

Picasa used to 'file' my videos as well but no longer seems to do this.
I also have many more photos in Picasa than you do and my version doesn't appear to be concerned that any limit is reached.

I also like to keep my photos on 3 computers in different places so that if one malfunctions I have copies on another; this has happened to me twice.

I wonder if there is another programme similar to Picasa which maybe stores photos FREE in the cloud which would allow phots stored on one computer to be downloaded on another without having to back up and transfer on an external hard drive.

Flickr.com gives you 1TB to store your photo's. Or, you could just use something like dropbox, Box, OneDrive, Googledrive, Copy, etc. etc.
