New Carpet Required

I am in need of new carpets in my 2 bedroom flat and I have received a quote today that includes carpet, underlay and fitting (including removal of all old carpets for £1620 for 60 square meters of carpet. I have 2 bedrooms, 1 en suite and 1 bathroom that requires carpeting.
The type of carpet i would like would be a medium quality twist style carpet.

I haven't before purchased carpets or had them fitted so wanted to get some advise, I will be getting a few more quotes but any advise would be greatly appreciated.

You need to ask how much you have been allowed per metre in the first quote for carpet.
Its unfair if one quote is £10 a square metre., one is £7 a square metre and another is £12. It makes an awful lot of difference to the quotes.

sounds expensive...or very cheap as we have no idea of the cost and quality of carpet. £1 a meter or £20 a meter.

I wouldn't put carpet in the bathroom.

Get a break down on what you are paying for what.

If you are paying £400 for the carpet and the rest for fitting and underlay then you can see the quote is a little off.

Like others have said you need to know the type of carpet to compare.
I would certainly recommend a good quality man made over a cheap wool. We had some on our stairs and I'm a convert. We bought our own carpet and underlay and got a local fitter in.
Carpet was around £12 sqm underlay around £4.
We had Victoria Heartland 50 oz.
I would opt for a good quality vinyl in the bathroom.

If you want carpet in the facility rooms, why not consider carpet tiles ?


You can easily and cheaply fit these yourself and take them up for cleaning. We once had some Heuga tiles, which could be and often were machine washed, in our kitchen.


I'm referring to quality carpet tiles and not the rough 'kitchen quality' types often found in DIY outlets.
