If there was a universal 'cheapest', don't you think we would all be with them? It depends entirely on your region and postcode. Armed with your annual kWh consumption and postcode, any comp site will find you the cheapest tariff in under a minute.
As for 'competency', I'd start with any provider other than one of the Big Six, who all regularly come at the bottom of all customer satisfaction surveys.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
You could try switching to the cheapest tariff with your current supplier.
No uncertainty / potential gremlins with the switching process, better the devil you know, and they're often very competitive compared to the 'cheapest' from one of the new smaller providers.
I've done this half a dozen times with NPower over the years (latest was last month when I changed from 'Intelligent Fix Apr 2017' to 'Price Fix May 2016'). I always get cashback as well.0
