Letter of destruction for software

Options
Hi, I have recently had a refund for some software and also signed a letter of destruction. They did not ask for the dvd back so I destroyed that too. I have or (thought I had) removed the program from my PC. Last night I opened a film clip that opened up in the software that I thought I had deleted. Not being to techie myself could this software be stored somewhere else on my computer? But more importantly could someone chase after me with a letter of prosecution?

How did you remove the programme? If it was on a Windows system and all you did was delete the desktop icon, it will still be there. You should use the uninstall procedure through the control panel in Windows.
Unless you "advertise" the fact that you are still using the software, nobody will chase after you - you've signed a letter of destruction, which presumably said you've removed it from your computer as well.

Yes I signed the letter and then emailed it back to them.

Some software does 'phone home'. i.e. it sends info back to the publishers over the internet - including the software licence number, id of computer etc.

Some publishers use it as a way to check whether one software licence is used on multiple computers.

(So if the publisher's software and systems are sophisticated enough, they might be able to see that you are running the software that was supposed to be destroyed.)

However, if you follow the software's uninstall process, you should be completely in the clear.
