Firstly, I would like to apologise if this thread is in the wrong section.
I am moving out ( with BF) as you can tell, and he is going to be a PGCE student. He gets a £9000 grant spread from October to May. As of May 2008 he will not be bringing ANY money in to the house. The money he gets is to pay for his living and travel costs ( which any of you other PGCE students/ teachers will know about)
The thing is... we know we are entitled to a 25per cent reduction on council tax...
but are we entitled to anything else.
My new salary will be 16500 p/a with a monthly pension contribution of £30.00 ( something in that region)
I also have ALOT of debt, so any help would be appreciated especially as my boyfriend will be having to budget SOOOO much because he wont have an income from MAY!
HELP!?

Many student teachers work for care agencies around their studies....not the most sociable of hours as a shift can be 5pm till 11pm with a sleep in etc but the hourly rates are good and you have the capability of turning down shifts that you cannot do. If your b/f doesn't fancy toileting etc tell him to avoid any jobs that include 'personal care'. Working in kids' homes is a great eye opener if he is going to be a secondary school teacher btw!0

I have many student teachers come and do industrial/manual work through the summer before they start their new teaching posts.
Tell him to go and register at an agency: It's only for a few weeks.
Of course the grant fo 9k is over 1k per month. You could budget to make this spread over the 12 months giving him £750 per month to live on instead of £1125. This will still give you a joint monthly income of about 2k?"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." The £9000 I believe is supposed to last him until he gets a job. With your salary that is an income of £25000 a year, which is not a bad income, so apart from the Council Tax allowance, I would not have thought you would be entitled to anything else.

It actually works out more than that, because the £9000 is tax free! xGone ... or have I?0 -

I personally don't believe they are entitled to anything apart from the council tax reduction.
I have disabled husband and we only get a little more with my job and his benefits than the op gets on her own and we get no help what so ever. Have to pay perscription charges etc because we don't get tax credits and have savings.
If your income is over £15K a year with no children you don't get any help tax credits etc.
