Hello,
I hope you can help, my husband received a court summons for tv license non payment. We had a payment installment set up and with him being self employed trying to gain work etc where there s not much work we forgot to pay the other installments.
He had got a summons for court for April, on the summons it had the details and a contact number of the claimant ( tv license company)
We simply had forgotten to pay, he phoned this number up and told the truth that we forgot, we had already paid one installment at this point, so we paid it in full and we were told the court summons would be cancelled, and no need to send the plead guilty form to the court, or attend the court.
I am worried because on the summons it had the option to send the guilty plead to court and stated even if the license would since be paid the summons still stood., so I feel that both bits of advice are contradicted?
We were told they had cancelled it over the phone. My husband asked for this in writing. so hoping this will come but if it takes too long to come the court summons date will be up!
I would like some advice because I do not want in a few months time for a baliff to turn up because I did not fill in the guilty plea to send to the court because TV license said on the phone it was cancelled...
What should I do? Is it possible to cancel a court summons? Any advice would be welcomed..
Thanks in advance!
Maggie

Contact the court - only they can confirm whether the case has been dropped. My money is on that it hasn't, and you need to complete the paperwork - but check first.0

We phoned the number on the court letter it took us to TV license department the court phone number also redirected us to this number. I always thought if a summons came it should have an embossed stamp of the court it did not... just a hearing date etc...
I might phone back again today and try and record the conversation..0 -
Then what you have received is not actually a court summons by the sound of it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

It says a summons to Court with the date and time.. It has the symbol of a court on the left hand side printed ..
But when you also phone the court number it redirects you to TV Licensing so it seems like false advertising..... as it has for sure hot Court Summons on the letter.......0 -
The correct number for TVL Prosecutions team is 0300 790 6034. Assume that is the number on your "summons"?
But going back before the Summons: did you/your OH have a visit from a TVL staff member who interviewed you under caution in connection with licence fee evasion? What happened? Is the interview form in the summons pack?
If they have told you that the summons is cancelled, then there is no reason to doubt this. DON'T return the guilty plea form. It makes no difference, since the default plea is guilty anyway.
I would find the real Court number from the phone book, and ask them whether the summons exists or not. When you speak with them, I would complain that TVL appears to be misrepresenting their phone number in their summons pack.
If the Court confirms that the case is still set for trial, go back to TVL, recording the call as you suggest.0
