IS IT ME? HELP windows vista mail contacts

Hi
Ive googled but cant find the answer. Can anyone help? If I want to create a new e mail, I go into the TO box and FIND CONTACTS. I type in the first bit of the address , or the name, but it always tells me that no contacts can be found . I have a list of contacts in the contact folder obtained from "add to contacts" button on e mails received. So why cant I just click on the name i want just like to old address book.
If this is a bummer, can anyone recommend a different e mail client where I wont haveto manually type e mail addresses every time:confused:
thanks very much
