Hello.
My dad has been with them since 1/05/2014 for gas/electric.
He pays £88 a month D/D. He has had 1 electric bill in December.
I have emailed and called on his behalf 4 times and the same response is the bills come from Germany and have to be manually checked.
He has paid every D/D on time and has given them readings on the 1st of every month. I have worked out his total bill for both for 11 months and he is £180 in credit.
What I want to know is I have read somewhere is that if the energy company has not billed you for 12 months then you may not have to pay but as he has over £700 in credit to them there is not much chance of them not billing.
I have been on the eneryclub for him and he can switch and save £150 a year and I know he will have to pay £50 penalty for leaving early as I have read on the Extra Energy thread it can take months to get a refund.

The 12 month back-billing rule applies if there has been no bill and it is the fault of the company. However:

    1. Only supply from over 12 months ago will escape payment. ie. if you got a gas supply on 01/01/2014 and had no bill, as of today only the charge for the period 01/01/2014 to 03/04/2014 could not be collected.

    2. The Back-billing is a voluntary code and have Extra Energy signed up to the code??

    3. By paying by DD the money they have received means, effectively, you won't get any money back.

I believe only 5 suppliers have actually formally signed up to the code. They are 5 of the Big 6, SSE being the notable exception.

However all suppliers, big & small, to domestic customers are expected to abide by the principles of the code.
(To be fair to SSE, they actually say they meet, if not exceed, the principles of the code hence why they never bothered to formally join)

First point is whether or not your dad has given his approval previously to Extra Energy to discuss his affairs with you. If not, the supplier should not be discussing anything with you.

Second point is that this article should assist you ... or your dad
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/lower-energy-direct-debits

Third and final point. If your dad can truly save £150 by switching supplier, even if it will cost him £50 to switch, what is he waiting for?
(You need to look into this carefully, as timing plays a critcal part in any assumed savings)

In respect to the back billing code, you can read about it here.
    https://www.energy-uk.org.uk/files/docs/Factsheets%20and%20guides/back_billing_consumer_guide.pdf

I suggest you read it again, as you didn't quite understand it correctly

    Back-billing principle

If your supplier is at fault, it will not seek additional
payment for unbilled energy used more than 12
months prior to the error being detected and a
    corrected bill being issued.

Yes and thank you for his concern.

Well according to the MSE energyclub he can by going to NPower. He is waiting for advice on what to do as I have stated in my thread.

I know about that thread and have been looking at it since October.
I wanted to start my own thread as there are loads of questions in that thread and I didn't want to add more to it.
