Hello everyone
We currently have a 1.6 Astra 60plate and it is making a funny noise.
When we start the car it is fine, run it for five minutes and the fan that cools the engine is running to fast and you can hear it blowing at a rate of knots.
We have it booked in at our local garage next week. The car warms up to it normal temp of 90c in normal time and isnt losing any water.
Just wondered if anyone has had this problem.
Thank you

If you have the blowers set to windscreen only this puts the air con on automatically and could be kicking your fan in on its own. Change the blowers to just up or to feet with air con turned off and see if it does the same0

Will try that tomorrow, thank you. Some people have told me it could be the thermostat starting to break0
-
If it's not over heating I doubt it will be the thermostat. Most likely is the aircon coming on. Got the same car and mine does the same.0

We have had the car nearly two years and it has just started doing it. Car drives fine but the spanner comes on the dash and under neath it it says - Service vehicle soon. We had it serviced in November.
It doesn't stop until you turn the car off0 -
Could be coolant temp sensor.
*To expand:
If no data is being received it'll stay on as a precautionary feature ie prevent overheating. As temp rises the thermostat starts allowing the passage through radiator as normal.0 -
Spanner light might just need resetting to show its been serviced already. Any change in mpg? Loss of coolant?0
-
Checked the coolant tonight. Its full and hasn't lost a drop. MPG is same as normal.0

May be the coolant thermostat is partially jammed, meaning not enough coolant is being channelled into the radiator.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
