Hi There

Looking for some information regarding my mothers situation

my mum is over 65 and at the moment she gets carrer allowance as she has a condition called ataxia. She first got the condtion in 2009 before she was 65 but she was not entilled to anything. We tried to apply for a mobility car a few years back but we were informed she was over 65 and could not get anything ??

I have been informed that things mite now have changed and she could maybe now apply for this ??

can anyone help the vehicle would be a wheel chair style vehicle

You can only get a motability car if you receive the higher rate of DLA mobility, enhanced rate of PIP or mobility or the war pensions mobility. To get either of the former 2, you must be under 65 when you first applied.

She would have had to prove that her mobility problems were severe enough to qualify for the High mobility rate of DLA AND have made that claim prior to her 65th birthday.

She could have made the claim when she was 64 and 364 days old but not had the decision until after she was 65 but she would still have been allowed a mobi car.
