It has been written on other sites that CD-Wow have gone into administration.
Hope you guys paid using a credit card!
They're continuing to trade, but are looking for a buyer; administration, not receivership.
Can't be looking good for their future though, all things considered...0 -
I agree - it is a shame - they were one of the first real internet companies to make an impact.
Big bully companies win again.
I won't feel so guilty when I (cough cough) ''borrow'' some music online anymore!0 -
Was about to buy from CD Wow and clicked on the paynova link but noticed it's not a https link only http so there's also no encryption when you enter your card details. I came on here to see if anyone had posted and was glad I did! Thanks folks.0

I was about to buy some CD's from Bangcd.com (they give 10% cashback via quidco) but when I came to pay I was presented with the Paynova screen. Bangcd's site explains that they have started using Paynova instead of Worldpay as paynova accept debit cards from some of the Scandinavian countries that Worldpay dosnt accept. Somewhat suspicious, I rang the Co-op (My bank) the lass checked with the fraud dept who said "we have no information on Paynova and if you are unsure about the safety of this transaction you should not proceed with the order" Having now checked here as well I am glad I didnt go ahead!0

The Paynova payment screen in embedded into the CDWow page, so doesn't show in the address bar at the top of the screen.
If you right click on the payment part and click on properties, you'll see that the embedded page is https, so it is secure.
There's nothing wrong with Paynova per se.
I've bought a few CD's/DVD's from CDWow recently without any problems.
The purchases came through as normal transactions on my M&S card, not as cash advances.
Hope this helps a bit.Dave. :wave:0 -
Just noticed that this thread is back on the go again. When I contacted my CC provider at the time (partnership card from John Lewis (incidentally, part of the HSBC Group as M&S Financial Services is as well) I was told that they considered the transaction to be a cash advance, and liable for interest to be charged from the time of the transaction until it was cleared. Strange that one provider will choose to categorise such a transaction as a cash advance, and another wont. Just makes things a bit difficult second guessing them - alternatively, avoid using Paynova.0

I'm with HSBC and haven't had the cash advance problem. The problem I am having is that for the last 4 days Paynova have been unable to process a credit or Maestro card payment. I get a message saying that either my card number's incorrect, I've exceeded my credit limit, or my financial institution is unavailable. It's certainly not the first two. No problems at all until this week. Is this the general experience at the moment? If so, with four days of being unable to process payments CD-Wow should be going spare.
I'll try it with WorldPay, thanks for the tip.0 -
I've just been onto CDWOW looking to buy some dvd's. I went to pay and noticed the paynova, and I didn't notice the lock by the address bar so I didn't enter my debit card details. So I came on here to see what was said about paynova. I think I won't bother now. I kept clicking on 'is this payment secure' and it kept closing down the page and losing what was in my shopping basket. More trouble than it's worth - pity as I was looking to buy a couple of region 1 dvd's that haven't been released here yet.0

As I said above, the Paynova payment page is embedded into the CDWow page so you don't see the padlock at the top of the screen.
Right click on the Paynova part of the payment page and once you click on properties, you'll see the 'https.'Dave. :wave:0 -
