Idiot keyed my car, repair guy messing me around.

Someone keyed my car about 2 months ago. A long deep scratch on one panel and a lighter scratch on my door panel.
Fuming, I put the photos on a local page on Facebook to let others know. A guy got into contact with me (who I later found out was the brother of one of my college friends) and said he repairs scratches and would sort mine out. Excellent, I told him to pop round the next week and check it out.
He has a look and says the scratch is deep but he should be able to repair it. He works for about an hour and then says he needs to pop home to get something and will be back in a bit. 3 hours later he comes back and gets back to work.
He puts some solution on the scratch and says it needs to be left on there for a few days and he will be back the following weekend to sort it.
Now here's where I've been stupid. I asked him if I could pay him next week once the job has been completed and he said he'd rather take payment now so he could put down the booking for the following weekend.
The following weekend it rained so he said he couldn't do the work in the rain so he said he would ring me.
I've not heard anything since, even though I have messaged him and rang him.
I suppose it's a lesson I've learned the hard way and it's my own stupid fault. I just needed to vent about it. Thanks.

Not sure how much you've already paid , but if you take to a decent body repair shop, if it can be removed without the need to paint. You should be able to get it finished for sub £1000

I guess the trust came from me knowing him. I went to college with his brother and I met him a few times. He knows my sister and she never had a bad thing to say about him so I guess my judgement failed me.Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

If you have a contact number for him then ring and leave a message or text him that he needs to
a. finish the job or
b. return the cash
If he continues to ignore you then you will take him to the small claims court which is not an expensive thing to do.0 -
As usual, Giraffe69 has sound advice.0

Oh poor Lulu.
Don't worry hun, in your position, I would possibly have done the same... (If it had been someone I knew by association.)
Did you pay a lot out to him?
I would also consider what giraffe said, but do you have the PROOF you gave him the money?Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!
You're not singing anymore........ You're not singing any-more!0 -
Managed to get hold of him yesterday. He said he's behind on his work as his grandma has been in hospital so will come round on Saturday to sort it, although no time has been arranged once again.
I didn't pay him much but it's the principle. If he doesn't show this weekend I'll be asking for my money back. Unfortunately I don't have proofOur Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016
