I have an iphone 5 and bought a car charger off the market. It worked fine for a while then I started getting messages on the phone telling me it was incompatible and it stopped charging the phone.
The light is still coming on, and it doesn't look damaged. Just wanted to check whether apple had come up with some sneaky way that only the "official" products work, as I don't want to be payingh £20 for something.

Charging cables for apple phones need to be certified, there are plenty of cheap cables that are, it is supposable in place to prevent damage to your phone in the long term. I do find that some cheaper cables that are not certified do work but only 1 way round:beer:0

I bought an Amazon iphone cable. Then bought an in car charger from a pound shop as their cables never last 3 seconds before there's an issue.
The amazon cable and in car charge part (has a usb connection) has lasted me about a year now, no issues.We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams.0
