Is this possible ?
I am trying to back up my Wifes laptop - prior to rebuild and have found that WLM 2011 allows you to export mail files to another program - but not, actually to create a back up file (to reinstate back to WLM)
Plus the contacts list is not easy to find and back up - is that the *.iaf file ?
Any suggestions welcome..

The iaf file is the account file - your login and mailbox details for your email provider.

WLM stores emails as an individual file for each message. You can just copy all these files to the backup. No need to export anything.

When you set up WML again create any folders you need to and then drag and drop the backed up messages into WLM.

    Thanks
  • Here you go:-

    Go to File>Export Email>Export Messages.

Highlight Microsoft Windows Live Mail, then click Next".

Choose a location (NB. the location/folder must be empty, so create a new folder if necessary), then click "Next".

Make sure "All Folders" is selected, then click "Next".

All email folders will be exported to the chosen location/folder.

For the accounts, go to File>Export Email>Export Accounts.

Highlight an account and click "Export".

Select a location and click "Save".

    Repeat for each account.

    For the accounts themselves:-

    Open Windows Live Mail.

In the bottom left hand corner, click "Contacts".

At the top of the screen, click "Export" and click "Comma Separated Values (.CVS)"

Browse to a location/folder of you choice (making a note of where it is), then click "Next".

Put a tick in all the fields you want to keep. If you aren't sure, you could tick them all, but the more you tick, the bigger the file size.

Click "Finish", and the contacts will be exported to the location/folder you selected
