I agree with this. I have noticed the likes of Opinions4U and Apples have been banned.
I think the clowns who run this forum are far too sypathetic to this kind of post. It's almost as if those guys waving the banning stick are also looking for an easy way out of debt.
It's why I don't post in here too much, I think my very first post in the Loans forum got me a warning.
Makes you question what the term forum actually means when it is governed they way it is.
100% agree, :T some long term members, who have helped hundreds, if not thousands with their advice on these forums, have been PPR'd, for daring to express valid opinions, that thousands have agreed with.
It's disgraceful really.0 -
Hmmnnn
i am kind of split on this. I do believe strongly in people taking responsibility for their actions.
However............ If people are desperate they make bad decisions, occasionally stretch the truth and don't think through the consequences. Any company who has a business model which a)knows this and b) exploits this mercilessly for its own profit, doesn't gain a huge amount of sympathy from me. This is a company that advertised a loan without mentioning the interest rate was 5843% representative APR!!! (for which it was sanctioned by the ASA) As you know we could fill pages of tales of their despicable practices.
It accepts that it should not have lent hundreds of thousands of its customers money and is now cancelling/or compensating them.
So on the balance of two parties exhibiting bad behaviour i have to say i'm more understanding of the op.
If i went the other way i worry that the next step would be saying to the person in hospital with two broken legs 'well you knew what you were getting into when you borrowed £100 off 'big Jimmy"!!
Thats not to say that in general i agree with people trying to unwind their freely made decisions.£1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000
LBM 28/1/15 total debt - [STRIKE]£23,410[/STRIKE] 24/3/16 total debt - £7,298

They've offered to refund me all my interest paid on these loans.

I wonder if the OP had a particular reason to choose that date?0 -
im also split, in the past i have used wonga and always paid them back on time if not early. Wonga does exactly what it says on the tin, even the high interest rates are not hidden. If you couldn't afford the loan why apply? you agreed to pay what they stated so pay....Plan: [STRIKE]Finish off paying the remainder of my debts[/STRIKE].
[STRIKE]Save up for that rainy day[/STRIKE].
Start enjoying a stress debt free life.....now enjoying. thanks to all on MSE0 -
Well done on your reclaim.
I don't think anyone can judge someone else without being in their shoes. If you are really desperate you will try anything to try and resolve the situation, and often be forced to a route that is not appropriate for you. Companies should operate responsible lending and if you were granted credit and you were not creditworthy, then it is entirely the company's fault.
If a 15 year old tries to buy alcohol, it is the shops responsibility to ensure that they do not serve this. If I tried to buy a firearm, it is the sellers responsibility to ensure I was properly licensed. Same rule applies here.0 -

Your points made are hardly the same as taking loans out by a supposed responsible adult I means guns and kids buying drink, Lol.
The point everyone makes is that people who apply for the loans should always do so at an amount they can afford and also not look at the stupid reasons like Oh Wonga should have not lent me this money as I could not afford it, !!!!!! they shouldn't have applied in the first place then as they are clearly living beyond there means and I would hazard a guess here that the majority of the people jumping on this band wagon have had a loan for something stupid that they did not need ie:- drinking, New TV and so on.
Again I make the point of people believe they are owed something in this day and age as opposed to actually being responsible for there own actions.
The only way I can see a miss sold loan is either by an under age person or someone with dementia or mental health issues, Anything else would not be looked at if I were in Wonga's shoes and people told to do one.0 -
I got a wonga loan years ago, got in to a spiral of lend, pay back, lend. i borrowed it for stupid reasons like going out etc. I paid it back and paid alot of interest but i wouldnt dream of asking for money saying i should never have got the loan. I should never have applied end of. My fault not theirs.0

At least you spotted the obvious clue.:)0 -

That is massive generalisation, equally, these people may have become ill, lost a job, had a broken relationshp, etc.
Gaz83, just because it was paid back doesn't mean is was appropriate for Wonga to have loaned the money. Who knows the expense of paying back. Default of more important secured lending, borrowing/stealing off relatives, or heaven forbid loan sharks?
I am not saying that all PDLs are mis-sold, but some are, and do you think Wonga would have paid this back if the OP didn't have a valid claim?0
