Return postage cost question

A buyer is claiming an item I sent them is faulty - its not but thats not the issue that concerns me right now
I dont sell that much so am unfamiliar with the very latest ebay returns policy
Is it now the case that ebay forces both private & business sellers to pay the returns postage cost for items that buyers claim are faulty ?
Reason I ask is because I read this

which seems to indicate managed returns does not apply to all sellers ?

Standing your ground and refusing a return is probably not the best approach, unless you are 100% certain it was delivered as it left you and can't possibly be faulty. Even then Ebay may force you to accept a return.
There are scales of how it works based on whether it was new or used and sold by auction or fixed price. As it stands it would probably be easier for your stress levels and your Ebay account to accept a return..0 -

If the buyer claims that the item is faulty then you have to pay return postage whether you are private, business and accept returns or not. The buyer will receive a pre paid label which will be charged to your fees.
It has little to do with managed returns really. Managed returns is that Ebay can provide labels and tracking for returns but when buyer has changed mind and seller accept returns.
You could refuse to accept the return. If they escalate it and Ebay find against you then you most likely will lose the item and the money it sold for. Personally I think its best to accept the item back, block the buyer and resell if you can. I sold an electronic item, the buyer claimed they had tried to use it and it did not work. I got the item back and it hadn't even been opened. Claiming it does not work gets you a free return.0 -

Ebay will largely make you comply with business guidelines, mostly for their own benefit. They want people to have the same protection within the law buying on Ebay. ok I found the postage rates either £2.99 royal mail or £4.50 collect plus using the managed returns process

Im still confused though as it seems to say here that the buyer pays for the return for a SNAD ebay case

If the buyer opens a case for not as described you will be charged. As it has been done "unofficially" through messages you will not be charged. If you want to send them a payment then that is up to you. They can't force you unless a case is opened.0
