Check for items in your 'start menu' 'startup' folder.

Also, check items in your msconfig startup.

Goto 'start' click 'run' type in msconfig. goto the end tab 'startup' and untick unwaned items.

I check mine every now and again. Nero likes to re-enable itself in msconfig, as does ATi hot-key/gart service which I never use.

Infact, to save time I just untick EVERY entry in msconfig startup.

I know some of you have anti-virus and firewall software running but 60+ processes running is well high!

I have mine down to downto 22. That includes IE running as I type this, a firewall and antivirus so that I'm still protected.

Basically, anything on the system tray (right-hand side by the clock) will be running a process. Things like WinZip, nero (as mentioned above), etc all run as a process even though they don't need to.
