Thanks for the reply Cherokee I was beginning to think that I was alone in this.

I rang again today and no update except they are negotiating at a high level. I did point out that wars had been resolved in less time. The fact that I am given exactly the same information every time I call them is so frustrating and I am now of the opinion nothing is being done.

I rang the F.S.O again last week and guess what no change. The lady I spoke to was as always very pleasant but still couldn't give an update.
It was suggested that a Manager could call me and be allocated to my complaint. The Manager called me and gave me the exact message that everyone else has given me ..... No change but they are talking to American Express and a high level but still no change. After a fairly long discussion he finally admitted that there had been no change and apologised for never been kept informed of the facts, he also said that if I still was unhappy I could have the complaint escalated but he didn't think that I would be told anything else.
I wonder if American Express will ever provide the details to resolve my complaint ,is their a time limit or will it drag on for another 4 years.
    Very frustrated
  • I rang the F.O.S this afternoon for an update on my upheld claim.
I was in informed that they were still waiting on AMEX to provide their calculation process for the "offer" they have made.
I informed the pleasant lady from the F.O.S. that I have been given
the same information since November 2013 (when the claim was upheld). I have been phoning them every 3 or 4 months since then and always the same reply.
At this point I asked the lady what the offer was and again (as I stated in a previous post) she was unable to give me this.
I was then informed that the F.O.S. were trying to ensure that the offer was fair.
I am becoming more and more frustrated with both AMEX and the
    F.O.S.
AMEX appear to be dragging their heels, and the
F.O.S. seem hell bent on making sure AMEX calculate the refund to
    their set out guidelines.
If I knew what the offer was I may decide just to take it regardless
of the calculation process but the F.O.S. are not giving that option.
    Arghhhhhh!!!!!

    Hi

I am in the same position as Cherokee Charlie, I have escalated my complaint and have a direct line number and a named manager.
I ring them every 3 - 4 weeks, on Friday I was told that Amex and senior F.O.S adjudicators had a high level meeting and Amex had finally given the calculations in line with the guidelines.
These are currently being checked and the longest claims will be dealt with first which will include me and most probably Cherokee Charlie so hopefully we will hear something soon.
If it is any consulation I asked Amex what their offer was and they gave me a silly amount.

I am keeping everything crossed that we will hear something soon BUT who knows.

I have told the F.O.S that I am now thinking that unless something happens soon I will go to my M.P.

    Hope this helps
  • Hi All,
I had an Amex Blue card from 2000-2008. I contacted Amex last year to simply be told I had no insurance on any of my cards (I've had 4 or so cards with them over the years).
I contacted the FOS as I knew I had something on the Blue card and every time I approached Amex on this card, they dismissed this card and only discussed my other cards (which incidentally I had no complaint or query about - the Blue card card my focus).
The FOS' service has been excellent to date. I engaged with them around Oct 2014 and they advised at the time it could be 12-18 months. I have had regular communication with them and they have called even when there is no news! Around 5-6 weeks ago they called me to ask for my permission for Amex to do a "soft search" on me to ascertain the full details of this old card. I didn't hear anything until last Thursday and was told they have found I had PPI from 2000-2004 however, they don't appear to have records of the amounts paid, so likely they will base this on a rough balance on the card over this time. The FOS advised me he is an adjudicator and this has now been passed to a "specialist team" within the FOS for a decision to be made and they would call me in approx one week.
I am not too familiar with the process... does the above sound right, and is the specialist team likely to be a team who would make the final decision?
Also, could anyone offer any advise on how the refunds work? I had the card from 2000-2008 and the PPI is showing from 2000-2004 (I do not recall cancelling it). Do they typically make an offer plus % up to the card closure date, or up to the date when you get paid out? Any advise welcome!!
  • I have now been waiting 2 years + for AMEX to settle my claim.
FOS has found in my favour but 'are in discussions with AMEX regarding how compensation is calculated'.
Really disappointing from FOS, thought they would have been stricter on AMEX following normal guidelines.
    Are they a toothless tiger?
  • Apologies for thread necro but might interest some Amex claimants who put in the claim at the end of 2013 that my claim, made in September 2013, is nearing conclusion.

The claim was upheld shortly after it went in but then I had the same response from the FOS listed here, i.e. that Amex weren't putting forward a satisfactory compensation figure and that they were negotiating.

Happy to say that I got a letter last week saying that a decision had been reached and that we would be hearing from them within 4-8 weeks regarding the compensation offer.
  • I tried to reclaim ppi from amex in 2011 but was rejected because I apparently ticked the box on my application form,
on reveiw of my application form, there is obviously 2 different ticks, one with me agreeing to general t's and c's and the other agreeing to PPI, which im sure i did not tick, has anyone else had this issue and have you any advice on how to get it resolved,
Amex have refused to review the application form as they dont believe they have done anything wrong but its very clear there are 2 different ticks on the application form
    Frustrated from Bedfordshire

    My petition:

Exclude American Express Services Europe Limited from 29/08/2019 PPI Deadline

American Express Services Europe Limited (hitherto referred to in this document as AMEX) have failed to correctly respond to claimants regarding mis sold payment protection insurance by ignoring, delaying and giving misleading or false information to potential beneficiaries.

Amex have deliberately made it more difficult for any claims to be processed by adopting a Modus Operandi (MO) which included refusing to acknowledge third parties acting on behalf of claimants Ignore claims letters not sent by Recorded Delivery. Falsely indicate customers had signed and understood the insurance by ticking a box. Lying about proof
