Mail Opened By Someone Before It Is Delivered

I apologise as this is probably in the wrong section but I am not sure where else to put it.

This is the third time in three weeks when post we have received has been torn open before it has been delivered, i.e. enveloped torn open before it has come through the letterbox.

My Mom had a hospital appointment envelope which was torn open before it was delivered. I received a bank statement again, the envelope was torn open when it was delivered. And today, I received some more bank information, again torn up.

I understand I could look at bank statements online, but I am not sure why post is delivered torn open. Does anyone know what I can do about this and who I report it to?

Put a complaint in with the local delivery office manager

Contact your local sorting office and raise your concerns. I had this a year ago, strange that it was only important documents that were being opened. It was more than obvious that they were being read, though nothing was ever took.


Turned out that our post man was someone that had a grudge against my husband, as he had been banned from the place we worked, so was going through our mail. He was soon sacked afterwards, as he was doing it with other people.

Thank you all. I just found it rather strange only certain things were being opened. Hospital appointments always come in brown envelopes and bank documents always have the name of the bank on the back.

I will definitely be following it up. It might be a problem as it seems to be a different post person each day.

I wish he/she would open my bills and pay them for me.

Is there a similar address near by? We used to get it when we lived at 10 Street Lane, Townville and half a mile up the road is 10 Lane Street, Villetown.

No similar address near where I live. There is someone with the same name as me but he lives in a totally different area of this town, the address is not the same at all.

Report it as others have said.

You could try some self help by sending yourself an official looking letter, faked to look like a private investigator looking into your post being opened. Perhaps some nonsense about fingerprints and test letters. May just scare him/her off.
