Mums trying out the Lumia 535, after using an Android phone and I'm looking for some advice on making the transfer as painless as possible.

We've got the contacts moved over, she doesn't have any music to transfer so that's easy, but I'm struggling with photos. Currently everything is backed-up and easily accessible via the Android (google) photo app (approx 1000 pics), but I can't find a simple way to link this to the new phone. The windows store lacks the suite of google apps and the browser version is extremely tedious to browse with page after page to navigate (approx 5 pics per page).

I considered downloading all pics from the photo app to the laptop and then uploading to One Drive but this doesn't appear to be that easy (can't find a simple way to "select all").

Is there better way of doing this? Such as a way to sync One Drive and the photo app.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Keep smiling,

If you have a PC with both Google Drive and OneDrive running, maybe a tool like http://allwaysync.com/ could copy everything from Google to OneDrive?

There's also a free Google Drive app for Windows Phone, but it has mixed reviews - https://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/google-drive-on-wp/b3e46abe-5fc6-48c5-b4ab-c27acc4d5308
  • I'm a little hesitant to download apps from non OEM suppliers, particularly when messing around with access to password protected programmes & personal information. Just uncertain about the security of these 3rd party programmes. There are google apps in the store but not supplied by Google inc.

Which part of that doesn't allow you to Select All -is it
(a)getting the files off the Android phone onto the laptop or
(b)getting the files off the laptop onto OneDrive?

I don't know Android, but would be tempted to use a USB cable to connect the phone and laptop to see if I could copy the files using Windows Explorer/My Computer/ This PC/ Whatever it's called.

Yes that's the easiest way....Put pics on android SD card and just put that into the Windows phone. Or, just USB to Pc transfer pics from Android, unplug phone and plug in Windows phone, transfer pics....Done. Not really understanding why you can't 'Select all' for upload to OneDrive.
Are you using the Desktop app or the W8.1 app for OneDrive? The desktop app works just like a folder. Move your pics to it and it will upload automatically to your OneDrive.
If your pics are not stored on the phone but just with google - I use Picasa+ app to view all my google stored pics. I don't share your concerns about 3rd party apps, the vast majority are just that. That said, it's your choice. You either engage with the technology or not..

  • Thanks for all the suggestions, I've come across a solution which makes the switch simple and thought I'd pass it along.

Google Takeout allows you to download the entire contents of your google account, or any portion (such as photos), as a zip file. This resolved my problem hope it helps if your in the same situation.
