Hi OP
I see what you mean now. I was thinking of DS in my last post- but now thinking of DD. DD finds it incredibly hard to get to sleep before 12-1 am. She would then prefer to get up really late- a natural night owl.
She is older now so I just let her get on with it- so long as she is not disturbing anyone. She likes audio books/music and often falls asleep listening. When she was younger though a good method to get her to nod off was for me to lay down with her and gradually sync my breathing with hers. I would gradually breathe more deeply and slower, trying to get her to unconciously do the same. It was successful more often than not- the only downside was that sometimes I would fall asleep with her/before her. Even so, we had a nice cuddle until she fell asleep. I would wake a bit later and make my escape.
Oh- and ban anything stimulating so the whole house is as calm as possible for a good couple of hours before bed- no tickling/laughing etc. Speak with a calm quiet voice, no splashing about in bath etc Absolutely no tv or other screen.
I wish you luck- a friend has a child who seems only to need 4-5 hours sleep a night. He was and still is (at 16) the same-just how he is.0
