...oh dear. we're selling to a cash-for-property company (a division of an estate agents), and buying a property offered through an estate agent.
we paid the solicitor weeks ago to carry out the searches, and heard nothing more about it so assumed all was well.
meanwhile, we redid our mortgage with northern rock, paid 500 quid upfront, and was told the survey on the place we're buying would take 3 days max.
a week later, no word and panicky sellers estate agents on the phone. somehow northern rock had "a wrong number" and simply left it, which meant more delays (they only did the survey today, a wait of about seven or eight days not including the time it'll take to get us the survey result).
then today we get another call from the sellers estate agents - they'd phoned up our solicitors to check on progress, only to be told they had "done nothing" because we hadn't given them a mortgage guarantee form from northern rock.
uh, would have been nice of our solicitor to TELL US they needed this, and we'd have happily given it to them. instead, they've presumably sat on our 96 quid for the search and done....what? certainly not pick up the phone, thats for sure.
finally, the sellers estate agent has had more fear of god bashed into them because the sales agent who dealt with us when we sold them our property said "it could take up to 8 weeks, I did tell them this".
first, no he didn't. we asked repeatedly and were told 6 weeks max, 4 weeks if they rush it. (mind you, he told them this THEN said he "has nothing to do with the mechanics of the purchase", so effectively he just pulled a random timeframe out of his head).
considering the property we're buying is vacant from 15th august, why on earth would we agree to a sale with a company on 17th july if it was THEN going to take 8 weeks?!?!?
currently ringing them up endlessly now and being told so and so isn't available, but they'll ring me back etc.
gah.
