MBNA (Abbey National) paid out after 7 years!

Just wanted to share this with you. I sent off PPI request for refunds to a whole host of cards and loans that I have had over the years. I was very successful in all but two cases. I wrote to Abbey National in 2007 (MBNA) but they with-held their opinion that I had NOT been mis-sold PPI - plus I had already made a claim of £6,000 during a spell of unemployment so I didn't push on this and did not reply. I received a letter two weeks ago completely out of the blue from MBNA - stating that although they with-held their opinion back in 2007 - that they were reviewing a number of cases and they were pleased to inform me that I would be paid my PPI back (plus 8%) - I turned over the page to find they were sending me a cheque for almost £20,000!!! (they deducted the £6,000 they had paid me already in PPI claims - so in fact they would have paid me £26,000 if I had not claimed). Couldn't believe this! Wanted to share as hopefully some of you will also receive a good news letter - as they are reviewing old cases. Good luck everyone!

    Fantastic news, well done you.
I want to claim with MBNA and TSB. I had a loan with TSB for about £10,000 and a credit card with MBNA for the same ammount, How do I go about this please, I just want to get the ball rolling. I never claimed on any of these accounts.
    Thanks

  • Hi Donna, Great news about your claim, I have just received the same letter this morning but they are not open until Monday for me to ring, what sort of questions did they ask you? I had the credit card from 1997 - sept 2004 when i paid it all off, from memory my limit on the card was something like 15k. Do they pay you the interest back that you had previously paid on top of the PPI? - i know they pay 8% on top of the whole amount. (I see an article online where the ladies card had a whopping 29% interest charge on top) and that acumulated to a lot of money on top, I will let you know how I get on Monday. Fingers crossed!

Answer questions honestly, don't make things up - if you don't remember, say so.

You don't need to know the limit or how much you spent.

You get a refund of PPI premiums plus 8% simple (not compound) interest - I believe with CC if your balance would have been positive but for the PPI you get that back too. You do NOT get back the interest you were charged on your CC for not paying back the balance in full - they may choose to give you back the interest charged on the PPI element.

This original post is a bit late for April fools and well done to Donna but really claiming 6k on the PPI due to needing it and then claiming it was miss-sold meant they got very lucky - a miss-sale complaint is saying you didn't want the cover, so I wonder what would have happened if that 6k was removed from their payment history retrospectively

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
