ALDI penalising Suppliers over parking

Following ongoing local issues with drivers/suppliers deliveries to the aldi neston rdc we write to instruct that vehicles from aldi suppliers MAY NOT PARK
AT ANY TIME within 3 miless (5km) of the distribution centre.
this parking restriction applies at all times day or night 365 days a year.
This parking restriction specifically includes the nearby clayhill ind estate and the entire town of neston,as well as the rdc itself.
any supplier found to be parking within this radius will have their loads rejected when they attempt to deliver into the rdc.
Regular aldi patrols will be monitoring activity within the local area and vehicle reg and discription of OFFENDERS will be logged around the clock 7 days a week.
furtermore any suppliers/hauliers found to be breaking this curfew will be subject to rurther penalties from the aldi corporate buying dept

Just seen this on a truckers forum. Makes me laugh at how ALDI treat their suppliers.

If I am delivering and tired... I will Park up and get some rest regardless of what ALDI think they can do

The OP was from 2009 but said restrictions are still signed.

It sounds like there were a lot of complaints about suppliers trucks once the depot went in, this just seems to be a poorly thought out way of dealing with it. It's a 3 mile radius, so I'm assuming the drivers will be able to park somewhere else if they need a break.

I wonder under what act of Parliament or local council bylaw Aldi were given the power to determine and enforce parking restrictions across an entire town on PUBLIC roads ?

Oh, and Trubster, apologies, I've nicked your post. Somehow it's found its way to the Aldi Facebook page .... I really have no idea how - it must be my big fat fingers.

They don't need an Act of Parliament to introduce any covenants or trading arrangements they want to impose on their suppliers who, in turn, have every right to take their business elsewhere.

It seems to me that, in this case, the supermarket is trying - maybe superficially - to show consideration to the residents who may have been inconvenienced by pantechnicons parking up in residential areas.

For once, I am on ALDI's side on an issue of parking.

If suppliers deliver exclusively to Aldi I might ... but only just .... agree with you. What if they deliver to other customers in the town ?

In addition, why put an Aldi depot in such a place ? Do what the other supermarkets do and put them out of the way of normal folks day to day lives.

I have little sympathy for Aldi to be honest - a bullying supermarket who got into bed with the biggest bullying PPC.

Aldi have no legal right to stop drivers parking up , they are simply saying anyone SEEN to be parked up will receive sanctions , which could include exclusion from THERE property , and/or they would not use the truck company again for deliveries

Not affected as the letter says

Having a supermarket near to where people live may not be a bad idea. The ALDI in Milton Keynes and the planned new one are not out of towners and local people appreciate the convenience

I am not a regular shopper in ALDI, but have seen the massive expansion in customers and, ironically, the parking chaos that cars cause since using the "poor people's" supermarkets have gained legitimacy. In the old days, their car park was always half empty, but now full, queuing and cars overspilling all around the neighbouring estate.
