NPower Crazy Forecast

I have just spent a very exasperating half an hour on the phone to NPower after receiving an email telling me that my DD would be increasing my almost 50%.
I have always been in credit, after a bad experience years ago where my DD didnt cover the yearly cost and I had an awful bill, so this hike came as a bit of a shock.
NPower very nicely has an energy tracker on their site and as I have been with them for the past 3yrs (they always offer me a good tarif compared to others) I can see my annual energy consumption-
2013 - £830.69
2014 - £881.53

All pretty standard until I get to the Forecast for 2015 which they are telling me will be £1503.83!!! How on earth could they have got this figure? I still live in the same house? I have not suddenly got a Mad Scientist living in my shed consuming 50% more electricity? My energy consumption is pretty normal as it is every year!

The only thing that changed was my account was erroneously transferred last October and it seems that this is where things have fallen apart? When it was all sorted out in December my consumption according to NPower went up by 69%? Can this have had any effect?

The lady on the phone was very blunt, telling me the readings tally up and that it has nothing to do with the erroneous transfer, but it just doesn't make sense when you look at the figures, and why the sudden jump in monthly consumption? How can I go from a very normal £800ish for two years to over £1500, it cannot be down to estimated readings surly?

I am so confused :(

The lady was correct about any erroneous transfer, the result of which should mean you are now in the exact position you would have been in had such an error not occurred.

Why are you allowing them to use estimated readings? Submit actual ones.

    Welcome to the forum.

This seems yet another case of slavishly following the 'all seeing, all knowing computer'.

There could be loads of reasons why this has happened. An wrong estimate, not challenged, can be accepted by 'The Computer' as the 'gospel truth'. Meter readings after this can then be ignored by 'The Computer' if they are lower than the incorrectly estimated reading at an earlier date.

Don't spend time on the phone, simply send an email headed 'COMPLAINT' and explain as above.

When I joined the most I ever used was about £720 a years worth of electricity but their forecast was just over £2000. Also I gave them actual readings every month.

However I pay on the bill so not bothered.

I am in the process of transferring to Npower, the electric look okay however gas is not showing on there transfer time line. I have got letters from them saying I am transferring for gas & electric and start supplying on 10 April. I am IGT for gas and I know it will take longer, should I phone them to check?

NPower in particular (based on years of custom, until recently) are a complete nightmare - I'd suggest trying a smaller company - I changed our supplier recently to Flow Energy and so far it's all so good...
There is no benefit to loyalty nowadays, even with Npower trying to fool you into believing that they are 'giving' you a discount...
