Hey thanks in advance for any help , I'm 31 and I'm on dla and get higher care rate ,lower mobility , £184 esa income based a week , And hb , I suffer from bad schizophrenia , My granny died 3 years ago and left her house 2 my aunt and uncle , which my aunt is giving her half 2 me , long story , My father said he would buy my uncles half and give me my inheritance now , The house is worth 30 thousand , I was thinking I wouldn't need hb anymore if I moved in , are I could rent the property and pay my own rent , tho my sister said I'd lose my esa if I accept the house , does any1 know which way 2 go ? Thank you so much

If you move into a house you own, it is not counted as capital, and does not affect your ESA at all.
The easiest way would be a straightforward gift - and you simply move in.
HB of course would go away, and you would not rent because you own it.0 -
So when the house is in my name I just stop housing benefits and change address ? Do I let the esa know I own a property ? Are any1 else ? Any advice is greatly appreciated thank you0

If you stay where you are and rent the property out you would probably lose your ESA and HB/CTS due to having capital worth more than £16,000.
If you moved into the house, cancel your claim for Housing Benefit being sure to give enough notice to your current landlord, confirm the change of address to your council to allow a claim for Council Tax Support for your new home.
Inform relevant departments such as JobcentrePlus who deal with your ESA and DLA of the change of address and that you own the property.
It is irrelevant that you own the house as long as you live there and your means tested benefits won't be affected.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
