Lidls Suddenly is half price on offer at £1.99. This scent is very similar to a Chanel one which costs £70, I admit it fades quite quickly but at £1.99 it's a bargain.
Why get a Chanel perfume for £70 when you can get a Lidl scent for £4 and smell identical? That’s what money-saving expert Martin Lewis asks, as he claims that both perfumes smell almost exactly the same.
According to the bargain expert, ‘Suddenly Madame Glamour’, made by the discount supermarket, is “virtually indistinguishable” from the designer ‘Coco Mademoiselle’, suggesting it could be a Christmas gift option for those looking into saving.
Mr Lewis told The Independent: “There are many 'smell-alike' perfumes on the market and a perfect example of this is the Lidl’s perfume and the Coco Mademoiselle.
“This is something we discovered on my TV show [Martin Lewis Money Show], when we got some people to smell them. About 50% of them either couldn’t tell the difference or preferred the cheap version.”

I use Coco Mademoiselle, and have to say that the Lidl one does smell incredibly similar. There's a slight difference in that it seems to miss one thing that makes it smell a bit less sophisticated than the real deal - but it's very subtle and I can only tell because I wear it every day. My friend who was with me at the time couldn't tell the difference between the two.Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0

I bought 2 bottles of the Lidl one last time they were half price (i think it was before xmas last year?). I always get favourable comments when I wear it

I was thinking the same - not sure what the recipient would say though if they found out. Could decant into a nice atomiser bottle though - retro style.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I think you would have to be careful! I can tell the difference between the the two perfumes, particularly when someone has been wearing it for more than 1/2 an hour. I am not particularly fond of the Chanel Coco Madmoiselle anyway, but I truly dislike the Lidl version which to my nose has an additional slightly rotten fruit note to it.
My guess is that anyone who regularly uses the Chanel would know the difference immediately.0 -
My Mum has worn genuine Chanel Coco Mademoiselle for years. We excitedly tried the Lidl version but were sorely disappointed. It may have similar base notes but is really not comparable in overall smell. It also fades incredibly quickly. OK for a splash on at the price but certainly not a substitute IMHO.0
