So what did she think dvla was sending her a cheque for

Money owed back to her. She had recently been in touch before hand on a different matter and it came through the post with 'this is your refund.' No reason to what it was for just that it was from HMRC and the DVLA

Re cloned vehicle - check the VIN number on the documents against the two on the car

Re can't tax online - if you have recently insured the car it can take a few days for the insurance co to tell the DVLA, so you have to go to a PO with the paper docs

So you recieved a refund of the RFL.

And thought they owed you money?

Why would there be a delay in getting a new RFL

If you apply online I thought the car is automatically off SORN.

    Did your Insurance lapse?

As you can't have RFL without Insurance anymore.

What you should have done was quietly Tax it.
They might send a penalty now for using untaxed.
Given you cashed the refund cheque in your own bank you do not really have a good defence do you.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • @ Clone Vehicle - The Vehicle ID Number is correct; both the paperwork we got from the dealer and the car's number match

@ Lapsed insurance - The car was insured in September 2014 and is paid annually

To be quite honest, having a reply from another forum, we understand that claiming compensation maybe more of a headache than what it's worth. Our biggest problem is why/who has notified the DVLA that our car is off the road and why they didn't notify us that they had taken it off the road if they sent a refund.
  • I'm asking how would we go about claiming compensation to make up for all the buses, trains, hire cars, etc

Why does the whole world run on claiming compensation these days?

    Its pathetic.

    Yet earlier posted
When I phoned, the guy on the other side explained that because there is no evidence to support a SORN has been submitted he put it down to an technical error.

    You answered your own question.
    It was an error.

Yeah, just FYI, if you you read the whole thing I asked whether if it had any weight in our favour. What part of the situation was hard to understand? My fiancee needs the car more than anything at the moment. She needs it get to the hospital for work and if she misses shifts, other people suffer as she is not there to care for them; she misses a compulsory study day; she misses out on being paid which in turn means we're not up on rent, etc. TL;DR Try being understanding and helpful rather than spiteful next time

If the car is that important to you then maybe pay more attention to the documentation.
