Idiots on the roads..

Options
So I'm happily driving to work yesterday evening, sitting at a junction indicating left waiting for a gap, and some muppet tries to squeeze between me and the hgv on my drivers side to create a third lane... whacks my car in the process.

Luckily he stops, exchanges details etc, and I go to work (rather peeved off at the idiot) but nobody was hurt... no police were involved (Though in hindsight I wish they were!)

Then I look at the photo's I took, one of which has his paper bit of his license and this fool in the past two years has been done for speeding numerous times and using his damn mobile at the wheel too to the point where he should have been disqualified (shows 15! points on license) but wasn't due to the fact it would cause "extreme hardship" according to the notes on his license.

Never mind the poor sods like me then who come a cropper to morons like this who cant control their speed, use a mobile at the wheel and cant wait 2 secs at a ruddy junction for a gap that he tries to make his own which as far as I'm concerned is driving without due care and attention!

And due to the "age" of my car, which likely only needs a replacement rear bumper and a bit of paint touch up will be written off as a total loss, needing me to find a new motor sharpish... only had it three weeks and the biggest kick in the giblets? I'd left slightly earlier for work in case there was traffic hold-ups due to the windy and unpredictable weather :wall:

Can you not just deal directly with his insurance rather than going through your own / claiming off your own? (Assuming 3rd party admits liability). They're much more likely to agree to repairs than accepting a write-off.

With 15 live points on his licence you need to question whether he really is insured or you've been sold a dummy

Why? Firstly it might not be written off, especially as has been suggested you deal with his insurer directly.

Secondly even if it is written off you could easily buy the salvage back off them and use the payout to get the repairs done yourself (or leave them). Much better option than going to buy a 'new' car, better the devil you know etc...
