Switched to Scottish Power but had no contact

Hello,

At the end of Feb I did a switch to Scottish Power from British Gas via Simply Switch/Money Expert. Not long after that I got a letter from British Gas saying that my supply through them would come to an end on the 19th March.

I took meter readings for BG and duly received final bills.

I am however, yet to receive any details from Scottish Power about them taking on my supply, not did they take a direct debit which was expected to come out today.

Should I be worried?

Other than an email from Simply Switch to say my application has been completed I have no reference details for Scottish Power at all, would ringing them help?

I had a real nightmare when I first moved in to my property in Oct 2013 signing up to Scottish Power (existing supplier) but hoped that this time it would be problem free.

You look to have missed all the warnings!

eg: From the Cheap Energy Club:

Warning: In our latest energy poll, feedback for Scottish Power was 58% poor. Ofgem has also set targets that Scottish Power must meet to improve its customer service.

It is against Scottish Power's terms and conditions to do anything efficiently or correctly.

Why did you expect payment by DD to be collected today if, as you say, you have had no prior contact from SP?

I would have been worried if they had taken any money under such circumstance.

However, you would have been fully covered by the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee :)
  • My advice, ring Scottish power, tell them about your situation. If not you could end up running up a debt with them for not paying a bill, If they have no records of your account then contact BG as the transfer has gone wrong in some way.

If neither of these have any information then it may be an idea to contact the "middle man" and contact the switching company you used as they may have not submitted the transfer procedure properly

I don't know what BG are playing at by taking your readings and producing a final bill.

You give your opening readings to SP and they then liase with BG.

They appear to have broken the switching protocol.

Good luck with SP, I left Edf 3 months ago and so far haven't had a final bill because SP appear incapable of carrying out the simplest tasks.I will be leaving SP as soon as things are sorted.

I did not realise that getting a final bill from British Gas at this point was wrong - one for the ombudsman to look at?

After having previous dealings with SP I know they are not great, but the issue then was me moving in to a house with SP as an existing supplier and me trying to set up a new account - I thought this switching malarkey was to make things smooth and simple.
  • The new switching procedure is nice and simple compared to how it used to be. But SP should've contacted you for the final meter reading and passed that on to BG so they have the same reading to use as final and beginning reading so there is no confusion about readings etc.

If BG contacted you fora reading. Then you need to contact BG about what has happened to your account and why they closed the account without you having someone to supply your household. It sounds like your currently in Limbo without a designated supplier as Bg have closed your account and SP were never given the relevant info to open a new account.

Contact BG ASAP in my opinion.

Irrespective of how the figures were obtained, are you suggesting the final bill is actually wrong?

The ombudsman won't be interested in any complaint unless you have already given the supplier an opportunity to investigate and resolve
They are allowed up to 8 weeks from complaint (unless you get a deadlock letter earlier)

As if by magic, within minutes of me contacting Scottish Power an email turns up telling me about my updated direct debit payment - with enough details to set up my online account with them as well.

Not a smooth switch but looks like it got there in the end.
