Feel like I have lost all my computer skills

Options
Recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 2 which comes with Windows8.

Whilst I can see some advantages, I am becoming more and more disheartened as I can't come to grips with some of it at all. I have tried looking for answers online but still no luck.

Hard to formulate the questions but, e.g. one would be why, when I sign into a different Hotmail account to the one I had to give to set the thing up, can I not attach photos? I use "Insert" and find the photo which shows briefly before returning me to the Start screen and, effectively, closing the email (and Hotmail) I was trying to send.

I find the whole photos thing so difficult on here and while I am happy enough with many aspects of my new laptop, there are times when I wonder if there is a way to go back to how it used to be before Windows8. I am feeling de-skilled. Is it just me?

Hopefully Windows 10 will sort of lot of this out

But in the mean time you can restore some sense of normality by installing one of the replacement 3rd party Start menu applications

don't have my win 8 pc to hand so can't recall the one I used, but it makes a big differnece

Win 8 was designed for mobile devices and window lickers.

For anyone used to a normal Windows OS, it's a complete PITA, with literally all advanced features removed.

What email are you using? Are you trying to attach a photo or insert one inline?
I have no problem attaching/inserting pics with outlook (web) signed in with another account.

What 'advanced features' have been removed?

I'm used to Windows OS's and I find they've added many advanced features (task manager is far better, power users menu in place of start menu and individual event logs for hardware devices are some of the particularly handy additions) and they've not removed any I found useful from Windows 7. If it was designed only for mobile devices and touch devices it wouldn't need the fully functional Windows 7 mode it has, I've upgraded my non-touch Win7 devices as the tools in Windows 8 are improved over 7 and it's noticeably quicker and more responsive.

My Mum just bought a Lenovo Yoga 2 and I was going to install Classic Shell on it for her to make it easier but as it's a hybrid thought I'd leave it initially to see how she got on. It took a couple of days but she's got the hang of it so I would stick with it as it's not as different as it looks and you can stay in the desktop mode (which is much the same as Windows 7) until you're comfortable using the touch interface.

Tried both methods, still having the problems. I had the hang of it on previous versions, worked fine regardless of which email address I used.

Not jumping on any train, just hoping for helpful advice, thanks. I am actually hoping that I will grow to accept it, if not like it.

I wasn't refering to you jumping on the hate train.....:) I was pointing out that it wasn't helping you when others did.;)
Not sure the problem is with W8.1 but with Outlook.
