Solar control glass

We are looking into the possibility of replacing the glass in our patio doors to solar control glass. The room faces south and becomes hot and the sun dazzles us! While I love the sun and would rather have a bright room than a gloomy one, would solar control glass help? Is it effective and would it block out too much light?

Replacing all the glass could be expensive, consider tinting film instead.

Thanks, we have considered putting up a permanent screen, but do not want to block out too much light. Not sure how much light film or solar control glass would block out either?!
