O/S Daily Wednesday 1st April 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy but dry and wind has died down thankfully.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS1 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was using up LO’s – we had pork, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, green beans, Yorkshires and gravy – there wasn’t much meat left so I did some sausages too. Not sure about tonight – but have planned ham, egg and chips for tomorrow night, so don’t to serve chips tonight, will organise later.

Work wasn’t as busy as I expected yesterday, but my colleagues at the shops were – and myself and another colleague could have been asked to go to the shops but the management decided they wanted more people on the phones, which is not where the help is needed at this time of year! Added to that we only had partial computer access from yesterday lunchtime, and it’ll be the same again this morning due to year end – we’ve had a change of management and apparently this is progress – not giving all the workers the access they need on the busiest days of our working year! We’ve never had issues before with needing to do “year end” at our busiest time, it’s always been done over a weekend so not to impact so much, apparently this is “progress”.

Only working until lunchtime today, then going for a nail appointment, then will come home and do the normal chores. Want to get cracking with the washing, drying and ironing as need to pack tomorrow, so if I can get a couple of loads done today, that means my work uniform etc and lots of other stuff will be sorted.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Cold and brighter here today, we had every kind of weather yesterday - hail, sleet, snow, rain and high winds. Thank goodness it has calmed down today!

Washing on the airers, have stripped my bed so that will go on too. House not too bad, probably because DD is away!

Hopefully the car dealership will pick up my car today to sort out the keys, someone coming from Freegle to collect the gas fire later and then off to meet a couple of friends for dinner, one of them my friends daughter over from Oz.

Have a happy Wednesday, take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Oh my gosh, I actually slept through the night for the first time in months and months. I feel fantastic, I'm showered, dressed and ready to take on the world (after a cup of tea obviously!) What a difference having enough sleep makes, it's quite something :D.

Today I have my community support lady returning to work after the sudden death of her husband. I am looking forward to seeing her but I don't want to put my foot in it and say anything to upset her. I will play it by ear and see how it goes. All I can say really is that I am sorry for her loss, I can't imagine that she would want to talk about it more than in general terms. She is a lovely lady and I have missed her.

I'm cooking today and we are going to have bacon and spinach spaghetti, another quick and easy meal. Yesterday DD15 cooked tea and it was very nice and I let DD12 bake some brownies. I don't know what she did but they were absolutely welded to my new brownie pan so the girls chipped off what they could and the pan has been in soak for the whole of last night. I was crying with laughter and DD12 saw the funny side too....eventually :D. I will let her try again if she wants but maybe suggest she uses baking paper next time.

I will see what is on at the cinema and give the girls some money to go if they want. It's quite expensive but it will be a real treat for them. I can't take them out myself so it's a good job they are old enough to organize themselves with buses etc. I'll let them have a day to themselves before the grand children come over tomorrow. I've really missed them and their mum. She is spending all her spare time with her new boyfriend which is understandable but I miss seeing her and the kids so I'm very much looking forward to tomorrow.

Hope you all have a great day and don't fall victim to any pranks. Take care xx

    Morning :hello:

redruby Did your daughter get her uni course sorted?

Aren't dog owners great? Well the ones I've met so far are :D A woman who lives up the road (I don't know her very well but we chat for two minutes if we bump into each other) found out we have a nervous rescue, so she knocked on the door last night with her five-month-old pug. She stood halfway up the drive and asked if it'd be useful if she stood at the door with her dog while I held Scampi in the doorway, so he could get used to dogs being near his house. We live on quite a busy road, lots of people go past with dogs on their way to the two parks and one field near us and he's not happy seeing all these other dogs through the window – though he's quite good when we're out. He was wary but didn't bark, after a few minutes he seemed to accept him and they were sniffing each other :D

It was very windy all day yesterday, it's calm now though. I didn't put any washing out, I thought I'd lose the lot, lol. I'll get it all out today, it'll be nice not to have it hanging around the house.

I'm still achy though not as bad and my cough is easing a bit. My head feels a bit clearer so I'll get some paperwork done this morning. The shopping is being delivered at lunchtime, no doubt I'll get some 'help' while I attempt to put it away :D Lazy afternoon for me – Scampi sleeps for a good two hours after lunch – so I'll get some crochet done.

    Morning everyone.

All seems calmer outside today though I'm sure thst rain will visit us again. At least the awful wind has died down.

Just having breakfast and then we're off to Oban to visit the dinky wee distillery. I've done the tour before and enjoyed it, the place is really small and the tour guides very knowledgeable. Then I think we'll go to the marine exploration centre, that should keep my visitors out of mischief for a while.

Food will be on the hop today though I've made a huge amount of chilli just in case.

I'll be so glad when the visitors go. Despite enjoying the time with them I'm still not able to fully relax. I suppose that sounds bad!

Dumpling - you'll find the right words when the time comes.

Tru - love hearing about Scampi, seems that people around you are being really helpful and understanding. :j. Where we live there are mostly working dogs and not many others, wall to wall labs and collies.

Hope everyone had a good day, I'm looking forward to mine.

  • Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

    Pinch n'a punch etc.

Heard from my friend in the US she has had 2 nights in hospital, they have found a non malignant lesion in her brain and also pointers to the development of dementia or Alzheimers. Not good news, I am very upset, she and her husband are great friends although its almost 15 years since we last saw them, she emails me every week and phones at Christmas.

Its a funny looking day, grey skies and then sun, its still windy but not as bad as yesterday. I have laundry to go out, so better go and do it before the rain comes.
  • Good Morning everyone, DD made it safely here yesterday and had the luxury of breakfast in bed this morning, is currently sat on the sofa with a blissful Olaf having a cuddle, awwww!!!

Weather is lovely at the moment but we're getting rain later on so will take advantage of this sunshine to walk up to the local centre for some greengrocery to see He Who Knows and that Piggy through the next few days as I'm going back with DD for a few days until Tuesday. It was a quieter night last night with the wind, hope it was better for all of you too!

Quiz night tonight and my brother and SIL will be coming along with the three of us so we're treating ourselves to supper out, quite a family party which will be lovely......even lovlier IF we won but I'm not counting chickens, there are some good strong teams every week and I love the obscurity of some of the questions and trying to work out the language root of words from the greek or the latin and matching them to a modern word in a used language, I'm wierd. I know!!!

Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.
