Admiral Car Insurance

Options
Hi,

I'm hoping some one can help me, last year I had a car insurance policy with admiral and I forgot to mention that I had penalty points on my licence,

The policy ended on 18th March 2015 and I have decided not to renew with them as I can get this cheaper else wear, Admiral have now said I owe the £505 for last years insurance as I did not declare my points,

I would like to know if they can charge me for a policy which has ended and also how where I go to dispute this

Any help would be great

Thanks

Darren

Yes you do owe them (you were undercharged because you gave them incorrect info when taking out the policy).

If you want to dispute the charge you first complain using the Admiral complaints procedure which will be set out in the policy docs.

If you are unhappy with their reply (or they ignore your complaint for 8 weeks) you can then escalate to the FOS for their adjudication at no charge to you.

Yes, they currently believe you accidentally forgot to mention them and so giving you the opportunity to correct your mistake.

Their other option is to think you intentionally didnt declare them thus committing fraud and as such void the policy retrospectively and load your to CIFAS for first party fraud. The former will be visible to all insurers for the rest of your life and will have to be declared. The later will also be visible to your bank/ credit card companies (current and future) and you may find that many dont like the idea of doing business with someone that has a tendency for fraud.

How much was your original premium? How many points do you have for what?

Log a complaint about the amount of additional premium if you wish but the alternative option is going to cost you a massive amount more than their charge.
